What type of groups at 100 yards can you expect out of the box on the handi rifle in a 270 or 25-06

Its usually about 1.5" with my 280,and 223,but some of the guys get luckier than me. Some report 1" or less at 100 yds.

Out-of-the-box to me means no polishing or trigger work. It just depends on the trigger and what ammo you choose. My first trip to the range with a new .25-06 Ultra Varmint yielded 2.25" groups at 100yds with rem 120gr CLSP. That was after I had polished the chamber and bore and had a factory trigger job done on it. The next trip to the range gave me 1" 3 shot groups with the first 2 almost touching using Hornady 117gr BTSP and Federal 115gr NP. I'm guessing with no tinkering, group size would be 3" or so, but I don't know for sure. Regardless of whether you do any fine tuning for accuracy, it would be a good idea to really clean it good, inside and out before shooting it, there was quite a bit of metal filings and gunk in the frame in all of my new NEFs and the bores are quite dirty from the factory. Polishing the chamber is almost mandatory to prevent failures to eject, but easy to do. If you read a couple of the recent posts for new handi owners, you'll find most of what you need to do to make em real shooters for little work.

1" to 2"...with a average cleaned bore...sometimes much smaller...sometimes much larger...if you do all the tricks of how to shoot it...they can be quite small...provided you've found the right handload....or factory load...because each rifle is different...just as each person is different...some won't shoot worth a darn...while others are 1 holers...
