Glassbedding 1895
« on: November 01, 2004, 11:04:00 AM »
Greetings,  :D

I just got my first lever action, Marlin 1895SS. Been surfing the net and got a question.
Anyone know anything about glassbedding a 1895? Help me understand the concept. What it involves, what it does and how to do it. I've seen it listed under several gunsmiths services offered categories.

Thanks

If your gun shoots good don't bother about it.  Glass bedding on a lever action doesn't seem like it would make that much of a difference to me.

Thebear141 is right. For the amount of work, or the cost, it's not worth it. A lever action isn't going to gain much in the way of accuracy with glass bedding, and if you haven't done a lot of this before, it could be disasterous! I've seen guns that could no longer be diassembled after improper glass bedding. Or worse, where the stocks had to be chopped off, because glass got into the working mechanism.

Thanks guys, I thought it sounded kinda odd. Whats the scoop on fixing up the forearm stock so there isn't any pressure points on barrel or from the mag. tube?

Thanks much.....
