Customizing a NM SBH...

Cknight, I have a pre-warning NMSBH that has been cut to 5" and I love it.  It also has a satin nickeled standard Blackhawk aluminum grip frame on it to lighten it.  Mag-na-port did the work.  Ken also ported it and put on a c-more red sight blade which I like very much.  The problem I have witht the fiber optic sight is that your eye is drawn to the bright insert.  (which is the way it is supposed to be) That works if you also have a firber optic rear.  Then you line up the dots on target.  If you have sighted the gun in the traditional way, top of front sight even with top of rear, and you get excited and put the dot on a deer, you will miss high!  I much prefer the c-more as it is easy to see and you still get a traditional sight picture.  You will have to have someone properly silver solder the front sight base back on.  No other method will hold up with the .44's recoil.  I recomment you send it to Ken at Mag-na-port and have the job done right.  You will not be sorry.  44 Man

Sounds like you've got some good ideas there.  I kinda like the 7 1/2" models.  A nice packing SA is nice too.  My SBH is just about perfect for packin'

From what you mentioned, it sounds like you want to end up with something very similar to one of the Ruger Acusport Bisleys..  having one of them in .45, I can say tht they have a very nice feel and balance to them.  I can just imagine that .44 specials would be fun in that configuration.    As a visual, the lower left is one of the Acusport Bisleys (before getting grip panels to match the Hunter).

as everyone knows here I have a weekness for custom handguns but if all you want is a cut bisley you may be better off to sell yours and pick up an accusport bisley. The grip frame and trigger will cost you about two hundred and the barrel shortening will run about another hundred and thats if you do the grip frame yourself. One other option that i did with my .41 is to buy a bisley swap the grip frames and then sell the old bisley with the super grip frame.
