.223: Load Information using Hornady V-Max bullets?

Been shopping today for reloading supplies for my .223 Ruger M77II and possibly my future Savage 10FP.

Here's what I picked up:

Hornady 40gr V-Max bullets
Hornady 50gr V-Max bullets
CCI 450 Small Rifle Magnum Primers

I've got Winchester 748 Powder.

Do you guys have any suggestions on loads with these bullets?

What COL should I be shooting for?

Any help appreciated.

I'm not going to tell you what componentsto use because ALL guns are different but I will tell you what works best in my FP-10, CZ Mini Mauser and Contender Carbine.

Speer 50 gr. TNT's (molycoated, using the MidwayUSA process)
23.5 gr, of AA 2230
CCI small (not magnum) rifle primer
Loaded in fire-formed military brass
Seated out to about 2.300"

All three guns love this load, but don't mix your fire-formed brass.  Keep it separate and label it.

Oh, yes, I use Lee Collet Dies which neck-size only.

If you insist on using W-748 powder:

For the 40's:
W-748 From 26.0 grains to 30.0 grains
 Remington 7-1/2 Primer

For the 50's:
W-748 From 24.5 grains to 30.0 grains
 Remington 7-1/2 Primer

HOWEVER...I found the following to be better suited for the guns I used:

For the 40's:
BL-C From 25.0 grains to 28.5 grains
 Remington 7-1/2 Primer

For the 50's:
BL-C From 22.9 grains to 28.0 grains
 Remington 7-1/2 Primer

Hi 480:

I like W748. With 40gr. V-Max I use 30.0 in my M77 MkII VT. 3,550 at muzzle and, believe it or not, have 3-shot groups at 200 meters of .450". I DO NOT use magnum primers, but if you start down a couple of grains and work up, they should be OK.

With 50gr. V-Max I use 28.5 of W748. 3,375 at muzzle and also very accurate: .250" at 100 yards is common.

I use LC military brass mostly, flash hole deburred, neck turned enough to get out any high spots and sized in Lee Collet dies. CCI 400 primers. One of the beauties of 748 (and BL-C(2)) is how well they meter through a powder measure.

I'm only using magnum primers because, speer says you need to.

I loaded up some 40gr and 50gr with 29grs of W748, using LC brass.

If the rain stops, I'll go try them out tomorrow.  I'm pretty sure, I'll have to sneek out of work this week and go try them.

I shoot both the 40 gr V-Max and the 50 gr Speer TNT.  I use H335 with both of them. It's flake powder so it cycles through the powder measurer dandy.  They will both shoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
