Alaska fought on the side of the............................oops, we weren't in the union yet. But we voted against Kerry.

Actually if you look at the national election map that goes by countys in each state, it would be easy to pick out the democrap population centers. Most of New York did not vote for Kerry but New York City, Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany did.  The same in many states, the heavy populated areas were democarp and voted for Kerry.

Hoping the south rose again is just wishful thinking.

Daveinthebush, thanks for posting that map. I live in New York, in one of those perennial red counties in a blue state. It's not about North vs. South, it never was. It is about urban vs. rural values.

Yes. And, more and more, it is about individual freedoms. It was a close
call this time. Too close.

You are right.  This country is polarized.  Basically it has come down to voting for your morals or who you think might benefit your wallet.  But I think the real problem will be the next election because. I am guessing,  "the liberal queen" Hilary R. Clinton will be in the next election.  Then you'd better run for the hills.

Longwinters,
I'm not worried about Hillary.  She would win the same areas that Gore and Kerry won...and lose.

I dunno, Shorty. It's just too damn close to be sure. If Hilarity runs, she will almost certainly get a lot of "knee jerk" votes from women. All she needs is three million or so unthinking morons more than Kerry had and she could do it. And, sadly, this election certainly showed that we have no shortage of morons in America. This election was scary, but if she runs the next one will be a nightmare. I just don't know.

Kinda neat how all those little blue things are near big cities and areas with affluent suckers.  Jakson Hole, WY (where the Hollydopes rape our state with $20,000,000 "ranches" with 40 acres and ooohhh, Denver, Colorado Springs (you can draw a blue line down I-25 and see where all of the southern Californians are buying all the property).  Let's see...hmmmm...My old home, Newnan, GA....just north is blue (Atlanta)...Hmmm...I was born in Bastrop, LA....no blue there.  The only thing I can't figure out is why the Southern banks of the Mississippi are blue.  Being from around there, I don't remember Memphis going that far south...and there are mainly Sodbusters on the Louisiana (Loss-iana as us coon-a$$es say).  Other than that, it all looks pretty normal.

Has the South risen again?  Well, consider that the original currency notes issued by the Confederate Government are now worth a fortune, hundreds of times more than their face values.  What was considered trash paper at the end of the War is now Gold.

If the south has  risen again (whatever that means) it is largely because of an invention of a Northerner; Willis Haviland Carrier.

Without air conditioning does anyone think that southern state populations
(and thus it's political influence) would have grown as much as they have?

Amen to that!  I came to Va. from Maine 14 years ago, and I still say, "How did anybody live here before A/C?"
