Did a REALLY dumb thing
« on: November 05, 2004, 05:42:42 PM »
Well I was outside this afternoon, taking final digital shots of my rifle to put up in my web site about "home brewed parkerizing" and some shots of a wheel off my daughters Honda for ebay.  Noticed my sons jeep windows didn't look right.  realized he had not put them on right when putting them on in the rain to come home.

So I set my camera on his car and set out doing his windows right.  As he came out we went over them, he HANDED me my camera.  We started talking about the snaps that were broken above the doors so I SET MY CAMERA DOWN on his car again :x .

I then fixed the snap and went into the house.  Yep you guessed it, he drove off later to run errands before going back to college and now my $200 digital camera is gone. :(

Unbelievable!

I have lost many coffee cups, soda cans(full) and tools, by not paying attention.  Had an old gun smith leave a customers 1911 on the back of his car and drive off. Luckly when he came back looking for it couple guys helped and they found it.

It don't feel any better when ya bend over to look at a pretty rock or something stupid and it falls out of your shirt pocket in to the creek.

It probably feels about the same, only quicker.

I feel your pain.

The really stupid part was, that he handed it to me once.  I guess the rock wasn't hard enough the first time. "Ouch"

Now I gotta wait till Christmas to get a new one.  I'll have to do the rest of my projects with the 35mm and get them on CD to upload them to share my "projects".  Like this one.

I lost my pager for the fire departmant once. I took it off my belt when I was talking to a guy because the tones went off. It was just a test and for soem stupid reason I put it on top of the truck kept talking to him and when we were done, I drove off. Never did see it again and it was about 400 bucks. I didn't have to pay for it, but I sure got some razzing and got a new pager designed with the key ring attached so when you whistle it beeps in case I lost another I could walk around and whistle until I found it.

Don't feel bad HandiRifle, I think we have all pulled a similar stunt at least once.  I set  my cell phone on the step bumper of my pickup truck one time as I was loading up some stuff at a job getting ready to head home.  You guessed it, I drove off with it on the bumper.  Done the same thing with a travel coffee mug, my pocket knife and a paint brush at different times.  The paint brush managed to make a 45 minute trip home riding on the step bumper!  I wish the cell phone had made it home, I never did find it and although it was originally a freebie I got when I signed a phone service contract it cost me $260 to replace it! :x

:) I had a simular thing happen to me except it was a expensive italian leather jacket.I went to pick up my wife at the airport, right as i got there to pick her up she said she wasn't feeling well. She had a bad headache, and she had just had eaten part of a sandwhich from Atlanta Bread Company.I started to take her home, she wanted to lay down in the back seat.I had been driving about 30 minutes, and had to stop and get some gas.Filled the car up etc.Got back in the car and asked are you going to make it?About that time she said I don't think so , and yacked all over me, the back seat and the carpet. The poor girl didn't even have a chance to reach for the door handle to try and open the door.I get out and get some paper towels to try and clean her up,and took my jacket off.I put it on the trunk lid,and cleaned her up,and tried to clean the car up somewhat.Got back in the car and drove the 15+ miles back to the house, with the windows down of course(rough smelling).Got back to the house and thought where is my jacket? Then I thought RATS ,I left it on the back of the car.I drove all the way back to the gas station looking for my jacket.Went in to the gas station to ask if anyone had turned it in,and the clerk said he hadn't seen one.I just about got back to the house and stopped at the stop sign that is about a half mile from my house, and there it was laying in the road.I went through the same four way when I went out looking for it.(WHAT A IDIOT). The jacket had been run over  several times. It was chewed up bad.Thats my story.

I did the same thing, more or less.  Brand new pair of prescription sunglasses, polarized, titanium frame, the whole shmear.  I had to drop some equipment off at Taquan Airline.  I laid them on the back of the truck so I could see inside to get the stuff out, then drove out from under them.  Never did find them!
