Loads for 7-30 Waters
« on: November 07, 2004, 02:16:58 AM »
I recently purchased a TC Super 14 barrel in 7-30 Waters.  Does anybody  have reloading data they wish to share?  Even the newer loading manuals don't have a lot of info.  I did order some Hornady 139 gr  SST bullets to use on whitetail.  Any help would be greatly appreciated. You can send loads to ks9wi@tds.net or post them here.  Thanks.

For the 7x30 Waters on whitetail I use 32.0 gr of AA2460 and a Nosler 140 gr balistic tip.  With this load I am getting sub-MOA groups at 100 yards.  Should also work well with your Hornady bullet.  Good luck.

I tried this load recommended by Graybeard himself when I first got my 14" 7-30 several years ago.
It is very accurate and has put down several whitetail right where they stood. I have no bad results with this load. I reduced it by .5 just to be extra cautious.
Sierra 130 SSP (Single Shot Pistol)
35.5 W748 (reduced from 36.0)
CCI 200 Primer

This bullet is specially designed to expand at shorter barrel velocity.
Good Luck!

I also use 35.5 grains of 748.  As I remember, it chronographs right at 2400 fps from a 14" tc with the Nosler 120gr FN bullet.  This is the O.E.M. bullet developed for the 7x30.  Last time I was out with it, I shot a 7/8" group at 150 yds in front of witnesses.  (3 shot, 4x scope)  That 7x30 will shoot!  44 Man

For whitetails, I use a 139 Hornady SST propelled by a max load of W748 and CCI 200 primers.  This is a consistently accurate load in my barrel. The best groups are 3/8 of an inch at 100 yards and a 5 shoot group of 1.5 at 200.   IMR 4064, IMR 4895 and IMR 3031 also do a nice job with this bullet.

For groundhogs, I use 100 Hornady HPs with a max load of W748.  A nice feature is that it uses the same zero as the 139/748 combination when used in my barrel.

Blessings!
