T/C Cherokee .32/.45

I have a T/C Cherokee .32 cal that is a blast to shoot. I just bought a NIB T/C .45 barrel. I paid $165 for it. Did I pay to much? Also, I don't have any loading data for a T/C .45 barrel. Does anyone know max loads for round balls & Maxi Balls in a .45 Cherokee? Thanks,

I use 40gr FF .015"  patch .440" round ball in my Cherokee.
Sounds like a good deal on your barrel, one of the guys in our club has a 36cal Cherokee and would love to rebarrel his to a 45cal,would you know where to find another one.?

I found the barrel on e-bay! I did not wait for auction. I "bought it now" before it was gone. Would like to fill my doe tag with it. Looking for a good round ball load for deer.

You got a darn good deal! My little T/C book says for .45 Cherokee;

127gr.,.440 rb:
60 grs FFG ---  1701 F.P.S.,,816 Ft. Lbs. muzzle velocity (this they list as optimum)
90 grs FFG --- 1980 F.P.S.,,1106 Ft. Lb. Muzzel velocity (90 grns is listed as Max. with a "Do Not Exceed" in red)

Maxi-Ball/Maxi-Hunter:
 They list 70 grns FFG as Optimum,,and 80grnsFFG as Maximum ("Do Not Exceed") for these projectiles as below,

190 to 200 gr. Bullet
70grns FFG 1575 F.P.S.,,1101 ft.lbs
80grns,,,,,,,1643 f.p.s.,,,1199 ft.lbs

240 to 255 grn Bullet
70grns FFG 1456 f.p.s.,,1201 ft.lbs
80grns,,,,,,,1541 f.p.s.,,1345 ft.lbs

320grn Bullet
70gr ffg  1334 fps,,1265 ft.lbs.
80gr ffg  1420 fps,,1433 ft.lbs.

Hope that helps,,I've always found the above info interesting and handy to have,,yet absolutley worthless in most BPML applications.
 Just IMHO,,don't fall "sucker" to Max load syndrome. Max loads seldom develop the best accuracy, the 60-70 gr ffg load they list is MORE than enough for ANY Deer size game coast to coast. When it comes to the "hunt", it's all about placement,it's all about the confidence that comes with accuracy.

What lostid said! Don't load too hot. 90 grains with roundball in a .45 cal. shoots almost as flat as a 30-30 to 125 yards, but group size will be about half the size or better with 60 grains.

,,that little t/c book say's the .440 prb they was usin? used a .015" patch with Maxi-lube or the Natural lube 1000 plus stuff.

 lord know's thar's plenty info here about prb if a feller looks in the back pages,,but that t/c book offers a basic guidance for a starting load

I received the .45 cherokee barrel today. It was just like the guy said"new in box". I also bought the T/C book "Shooting Black Powder Guns". It has Round ball loads from .32-.58 cal. I think I will try 60gn Pyrodex P first. Thanks for all the help.

better clean all the old packing grease out REAL good before ya shoot it!!
And I mean REAL good! Seem's to be one of the major downfalls of new shooters using new barrels!

hendog?? If you got lucky enough to find a 25yr old barrel NIB,,then you need to know your dealing with 25yr old caked crud stuck ta "cosmolien".(that olde packin crap what ever it called)

If you don't spend 8hrs cleaning that stuff out of that barrel,,then you'll be the next one posting "How do I polish the bore?" and/or  "my new barrel won't shoot!?" You clean that barrel with white patches an solvent till white patches come out white!! If you "bake" any  packin grease left in that bore with any powder,, by shooting it before it's clean??/ well then, you asked for it.
 I know about this,,I found a cherokee mint 2 yrs ago. The current owners daughter is a top shooter in the mtn/western area,only because he knew how to care for it. Put aside the fever ta shoot it and web-site braggin, just care for the "no longer being made barrel"
