When a container of powder gets low, I dump it into a new container of powder and roll it around for a while. So when the Unique plastic bottle gets low, I get a new bottle of Unique, pour in the remains of the old bottle, and shake and roll it to mix it up good. I've been doing this for years.
Some folks write about lots of powder varying, and figured that the mixing would take care of the variation. Now I'm not so sure.
What do you do?

Use it all up and then go to the new stuff. Mixing powder is not good for several reasons one is some folks have mixed up two different kinds by mistake. 2. The older powder may be on the verge of breaking down or as you say the powder may vary and contaminate the new powder. 3. Just because for safety reasons I don't or would not. I know this may sound petty but it only takes one mistake.

I try and load up all the rounds I can out of the same lot or canister. If it comes up short then I will add the new powder to that round and maybe make it a bit light. I had a pound of H110 that was about 1.5 grains slower than the rest and also a pound of Blue Dot that was 2 grains faster (in the shotgun) than the old batch. That'll get your attention real quick!

I do like to use it all up but will mix the old with the new within the confines of the powder measure.
Usually ends up being a small amount as I will run it fairly low trying to make it through.

I mix mine, but I load way below max. I usually use Unique for most everything, so I buy the 4lb container and pour some into the empty 1lb Unique container. Except for 9mm I use cast bullets in all my guns and Unique works well enough for all of them.

I'm working on a 8 lb can of 4064 and a bunch of cans of 4227 (probably surplus, but I don't know - bought at a good price from an estate).

Let me say, living only a dozen miles from where Aliant Tech Systems makes their powder, that it is common practice to blend, blend and blend some more. (Very senior Engineers have been FIRED for not blending as much as they have signed-off on what they said was blended.)

The advantage is that is makes the batches more uniformly equal to each other. The disadvantages have already been stated.

Since I know the approximate age of the powders, I will either finish the can on one load or blend and verify the load for the next batch.
