First deer with Huntsman!
« on: November 08, 2004, 02:25:08 AM »
I took a nice Tennessee doe with the Huntsman at 4:45 PM Saturday. Dropped right where she stood to a load of a 348 gr. Powerbelt H.P. and 90 gr. Pyrodex @ 75+ yds.

Bullet passed through completely, hitting both lungs. By the time I'd reloaded and got to her it was all over.

Hunted the next morning and passed on a second, larger doe. The most deer I can store is 3-4 depending on size, and after the first "meat-in-the-freezer" I get more selective.

When I unloaded by firing, the bullet hit 1/2" from my point of aim @ 50 yds. Looks like the huntsman will do the trick now that my eyes won't let me shoot my old ironsighted sidehammer anymore. I have a Simmons ProDiamond 4x shotgun scope on the Huntsman.

:D

Thanks guys, I'm happy again as the first muzzleloader season here in Tennessee was for 20 years my favorite deer season. It fell in the first 2 weeks of November and offered 2 deer either sex one buck only. And until 2-3 years ago, I could do no wrong with the iron-sighted CVA sidehammer I built from a $99 kit.

Then I gut-shot a doe @ 75 yards and had to track her for 2 hours two years ago, and flat missed a "gimme" 7 pointer @ 20 yards last year. I knew my ironsighting days were done - *sigh*!

Hey mtnman, I could tell from your few posts over the summer that you must have been up to your shoulders in 'gators at work or something. What's the good word?
