Hello to all
Well I have a 11-48 16 with modified choke
I recieved it as a gift a long time ago
Have no problems just wondering the history
I cannt find much online about it
and if its possible to find replacement barrel with REM chokes

Don't know much about the gun and obviously can't help ya there. But...unless it's a light contour barrel, you can take it to a gunsmith and get it threaded for choke tubes; those like RemChoke. Hope this helped...

I have an 1148 in 16 gauge also. I doubt that you will find a remchoke barrel for it. It was made during time when they were not being put on them yet. My gun is very dependable and beautiful as I have cared for it.
I also have one in 12 GAUGE (Mohawk 48 ). See link below for history.

i have one they quit making them in 1969.

I also like the old 11-48 and have 3 now12, 16, and a 20 and have owned at least 3 more. they came out in 1948 Remington never made a rem choke barrel. i've seen stocks on gunbroker and auction arms sites plus e bay now and then they suffer from the Browning cracked forearm .

why dont you just have a gunsmith put threads in the barrel for you so it can accept the chokes? should be less than $100.

Exactly what I meant. Only thing to worry about is how much 'meat' there is on the barrel. If there isn't enough to thread it, gunsmith won't do it. Been there, done that.

May I recommend that you not modify the barrel by installing a choke system. Look for another barrel in the desired choke. These guns are becoming more collectible. Especially the .410,28 and 16. JMO.

A brief Remington autoloading shotgun primer...
The model 11 was a hump-back Browning clone, and was made from 1905-1949. The 11-48 replaced it in that year. Both are recoil operated. Remington's first gas operated autoloader was the model 58, made from 1956-1964. this, and the 11-48 were phased out in favor of the model 1100, which came out in 1963. In 1987 they "improved" the 1100 and called it the, you guessed it, the 11-87.

I have been looking for a barrel for my 1949 model 1148 16 gauge for 15 + years. Any suggestions? My barrell has a small hairline crack from shooting steel (I didn't know at the time steel came out it could damage older barrels).
