REF: LA Southern Nationals 2004.
Did anyone attend this event last year? Seeing that the NRA gig is in AZ next year us NY'ers are thinking of trying this event.
It sounds like a big event (sponsored by Budweiser). Any help on places to stay, insider tips, etc. would be appreciated.
Also last years event was in June. Any announcement on the 2005 dates.
Thanks

Can't comment on the dates for next year, or best places to stay, duckgumbo can jump in here and give that info.  But, since you asked for input from those that had been there I can tell you this.  IMHO it is a must attend event for smallbore shooters.  Great food, the matches are ran in a top flight fashion, the competetion is keen, the prizes great, the people world class.  The club facilities are top notch (watch the mud in the parking lot, though) and the merchants in Winnsboro know that they have a big time shoot in town and act like they are glad you are there.  And, according to early reports, this year is an anniversary year and will be the biggest and best yet.  My entry fee is going in just as soon as the entry forms are up on the website.

Date 1st weekend in June
The shoot, one of, if not, the best you will ever attend. Good food, fun and people, not to mention prizes.
If you cannot have fun at the southern nationals you just can't have fun, I don't care who you are. You'ell be treated so many ways you gotta like one of them.
Come on down roll-up your pants leg and wade on in. Pat the fat dawg at the beer wagon. He'll be drunk.

Take it from someone in the North West.  Don't just listen to thoes southernrs.  The southern nationals are one of the best shoots I have attended.  I don't remember the name of the motel but I stayed at the junction of I-30 and the little road that goes south to range.  It is hot down there.  Have fun.

Check for Best Western or other major motel in Rayville about 25 miles north. It's a small town but it's on I-20 and has a lot of rooms. And when you drive throught the small towns between Rayville and the range, slow down!
I don't think you'll find a nicer range or a friendlier, better-run match.
