Do any of you guys out there have any good recipies for hot .45 LC rounds out of a rifle? thanks in advanced guys

A good LBT hard cast bullet and a healthy dose of H110!

Most of the manuals list a load for TC/Ruger only in 45LC, most of those should get you there.

Iwas wanting a good hunting load for a rossi 45 lc single shot. i'm getting ready to purchase one and wanted to know how hot i could load it.(velocities would be good)

Just remember, if you want a .454 Casull, buy a .454 Casull in lever action. Don't hurt yourself or anyone in the vicinity by doing something dumb and loading "hot" loads. I have a .454 Casull barrel for my Encore, love it, but only about half the time do I use true .454 Casull loads, the top end of the Ruger/TC loads for the .45 Colt (not Long Colt, cause there isn't a short Colt, just the .45 Colt

)in the manuals will do anything I need them to. That being said, it's still fun to load a 320 gr. cast with 27 gr. of H110 and know that I don't have to hold over a milk jug at 150 yds.! I'm not flaming you, just reminding you to be cautious, 200 fps doesn't have THAT much effect in the field, and I think quite a few people on here will agree with me.

all i want is a rifle load that is getting around the equivilent of a .44 mag for deer huntin.

The Rossi in 45 colt will do all you need. Heck... Most of the deer I have killed was with a fairly mild load of 11 grains of unique under a 250 grain SWC. The Rossi will take a lot more than that but out to 100 yards or so I have had all pass thru shots, mild recoil and meat in the freezer :grin: :grin:

Arguments have gone on over the years as to whether it is proper to call the cartridge a LONG Colt. As it is pointed out, it was never so named by the manufacturers. And, say some, there never was a .45 SHORT Colt. However, popular usage over the years has termed the Colt cartridge to be the .45 Long Colt with good reason. Pretty much as said, in the .45 Colt, its the weight and shape of the bullet that supplies the majority of the killing power. Once you have a load that will completely pass through a deer, and that may be only 1100-1200fps, adding velocity (and pressure) will add little if anything to its effectiveness. A Colt is pretty much going to be a 75-125yd round no matter how hard you push it. Study the trajectory tables in your Speer manual and you'll see that there is very little difference in trajectory between a 1200fps load and 1600fps load.

You were smart to get the 44 mag, as its what you wanted to begin with. Why try to turn the 45LC into one. Of course the best thing to do is buy both, but doing so may take forgiveness from the misses.
