Glocks are uncomfortable junk!
« on: November 10, 2004, 04:54:05 PM »
I posted awhile back about how my glock pointed up when i grip the gun. Nobody responded so i figured two things, either i was the only one with this dilemma or nobody wants to admit that glocks are not perfect. I asked around and let many people hold the gun and have come up with about half or a little more of the people have the same trouble with the gun.  The glock is not junk, i just threw that in so i might get a response from this somewhat lame board.
The funny thing is i really like the glock but cant get over its  tendance to point wrong. It is for sure a glock desighn issue since my colt does not nor does the kimber or springfield armory. If this offends anyone, get a grip, pun inteded. I will ask one more time, is there a grip add on that i can use to fix the glock grip desighn?

Sounds more like a personal issue to me. None of my Glocks point up for me. In fact they are quite natural pointers and excellent shooters. I have total confidence in them for self defense purposes.

They do have a higher bore axis which some people either don't like or they get over it.  It doesn't bother me and I can go from my Glocks to my XD to my High Power with no problems.  It just takes practice, practice, practice to build muscle memory.

If it bothers you that bad, there is an after market grip for the glock that chanages the bore axis somewhat.  I think Dillion might sale them.

:) Dont get your panties in a wad, I do like glocks and am getting a 27 soon. I am just looking for a way to get it to point more instinctively for me. I also have complete confidence in the gun as far as reliability goes.
tsscottw99, thank you for your response. The higher bore axis sounds reasonable to me. I will get hold of dillon and see what they have.
Dave 375hh, (censored word) you and the troll comment. I am not a troll looking to get a rise, just looking for some help with a gun issue. I have bought lots of gun that did not work out lots that did. I am sure with a little work the glock will work also.

I have really enjoyed mine, but when doing rapid fire I tend to lose the front light to the left. So I get the muzzle moving up and also a bit to the left.   Must be screwing something up in my grip.  Any helpful tips are always appreciated.

It is just like the Lugers. They pointed up too. The angle of the grip is just different,no biggie really.

greg p If you have one of the first generation of Glocks - which had a less taper to the handle - they did have the problem of pointing upward. The new generations of Glocks have a stronger taper in the handle. I now own a 27 - 23 - 22. I love all of them. They do not point upward.

coyote 2, Thats the kind of information i have been looking for. I did not know there was a difference in the grips of the newer and older guns. My gun is the older  style. I will head to the shop and look at the new model asap. Again, thanks.

Troll/greg p,
When you referred to this as "a somewhat lame board" You put yourself in the Troll catigory. That statement was only ment to get a rise, and when it did you cry about it. Welcome to the ignore list, bye!

Dave get a grip. I don't think he was trolling. I think he was just disappointed because of the lack of response. This is my first time to checkout the glock forum but I'm not a troll either. I spend most of my time in the H&R forums.

Glock grip modifications
« Reply #14 on: November 14, 2004, 06:33:31 AM »
Arizona Response Systems does a modification to the Glock grip profile that can make it alot more like the Gov't.  He will take off the finger grips, flatten the lower rear part of the grip, round the finger guard, and change the "stippling" on the grip to something more "grippy".  There are pics on his site.

[www.arizonaresponsesystems.com/] and look for the Glock section, then find the Glock pictures link. [/url]

I'm not a Glock fanatic, but I like them and use them. Sounds like a problem with the shooter, and not an inherent problem with Glocks.

Which Glock model are you refering to?
I used to have a Glock 19 9mm that did not have this point up problem but my Glock 20 10mm does point up and I have to intentionally lower the front sight to sight correctly, my Colt Delta Elite 10mm does not have this problem either.

Funny, my Glocks have a tendancy to point down for me...I wonder...could it be that we weren't born with the factory standard "hand" instead we each have cutom made mitts!

I have a glock 19 and 23.  Both guns shoot great i have no problems with them.  I was told that the steyr grip was built to point straight naturally and just looking at the steyr it does look different.  I sat my glock 23 on top of an S model .40 cal steyr and the grips looked to have the same angle.  I have heard that the person who came up with the steyr design worked for glock and decided to take his design else where after glock passed on it.  This could be true the steyr has alot of the same features as the glock.  alot of this is hear say, does anybody know?  I know I really like my glock pistols!!

They all point up for me. You are not alone. I am stuck with Glocks:  my 27 points relatively well, the 32 was so so fit wise, but the 22 points high and I am stuck with it because my agency shoved it down my throat.

Rather carry the 27, but oh well.

On rapid fire try just using the front sight to aquire target and don't worry about the rear sight.  We do this alot in IDPA and IPSC shooting and it works quite well for hitting plates and COM.

Before I started shooting Glocks they pointed high for me also.  After shooting one for a while I don't notice any difference.  In fact I will only own glocks I absolutely love them.  I'm not putting down any other gun I'm just stating I believe they are the perfect combat handgun.  Also you might try robar they can do some nice things with glock grips, they may be able to shave it and reshape the angle some.

Points high
« Reply #23 on: October 23, 2005, 01:37:59 PM »
I have owned three Glocks: a 19,  a 23, and a 20.  They all had grip angles much greater than the 11 degree angle of a 1911.  Only the 20 gave me any real problem.  I suppose that was due to its larger grip.  I finally took a Dremel tool to it and cut away much of the back strap (it was really only the swell at the bottom causing problems).  I filled up the void thus created with black RTV.  The grip fits me much better now.  It is smaller in girth and the backstrap and frontstrap are now parallel.  The gun still points high, but is much better than before.

As with any pistol, you must practice a lot and become familiar with how it points.  I believe that you can get your Glock to shoot where you point it by lots of practice.  Glocks are not the prettiest weapon out there, but they are among the toughest, most reliable pistols on the market.  Unlike some that cost a lot more, they go bang every time that you squeeze the trigger.  I was a skeptic, now a fan.  they are all that I carry to protect me and my family.  Keep at it, it'll grow on ya!

I own two Glocks and I can grip them tight or lose and they, neither one points up. Unless I point them up. I used to shoot in matches and never had a problem like that. Try some after market hand grips that might help. :D

You come on here, are purposely rude since nobody jumped to attention at your question, and expect us to be happy to help you?  I think you are the one with issues.  A sensible individual would have just posted again asking for a response.  I have a bit of insight on your question, but I wouldn't share it after your behavior.

Actually, I have to agree with greg p. For me, the subcompact glocks aim a trifle higher than the compacts, which is why I bought a 23.

I am currently transitioning from a 1911 with the flat spring housing.
