I want to wish all veterans a happy veterans day.  I also want to express my sincere thanks for the service that you have given me and my family.  I have never served, but I do recognize the sacrifice that all who have served in the past and are currently serving are giving to me and my family.  It is because of you that I have not needed to fight.

It is not the government we should thank for our freedom, but the soldier.
It is not the poet we should thank for the freedom of speech, but the soldier...etc.  (This is a small quote from something my daughter read to me last night, I can only recall a few lines.  If someone has the whole quote it would be great to post).

THANKS AGAIN TO ALL THE MEN AND WOMEN OF HONOR!!!!!!!

Sincerly,

Matt Stevens

USAF, 4/73 to 6/76, SAC - Beale AFB, Ca.

While at Beale AFB, I served under the 17th FMS and then the 9th Bomb Wing.  I can not say what my job was at the time.

A little information of Beale AFB  At one time this base was Army and served as a training area for General George S. Patton to train his tank troops.  This base also housed for many years many German POW's captured during WWII

Home of the Black Bird SR-71  http://www.sr-71.org/ (used to be known as the YF-12) http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/sr-71~1.htm

B-52's http://history1900s.about.com/library/photos/blyindexvietnam.htm, KC-135's http://www.af.mil/factsheets/factsheet.asp?fsID=110 , T-38's http://www.airforce-technology.com/projects/t-38/ and U-2's http://142.26.194.131/aerodynamics1/Appendix/Aircraft/U2.html until retired.

Of course now we have much newer and better aircraft.

I was very proud to serve my country and would do it again if I could.

I wish I could post the pictures here from the e-mail I got from MSPretired in an e-mail.  Please take the time to think and pray about our boys and girls over in harms way right now.  The nice soft bed you have is a fox hole to them, and sometimes a mud hole from the rains.  The next time you just run down the hall at night to use the RR, remember you don't have to duck for cover in doing so.  When it gets cold at night, remember the 130* temps that they are in etc.....

Lest we forget those that have already given ALL for the freedoms of many... lets remember that Some Gave ALL

God be with them ALL!

fortress99,
Good to see your kids know where our freedoms come from.  A generation like that will lead this country well, no matter which way they vote.

I just got back from visiting the Veteran's Cemetary nearby and doing some prayers for the souls of the departed. It was a lovely place and there were a number of people there visiting the grave sites.

Montanan one former SAC to another 351st CES Whitman A.F.B. Missouri know what you mean when you said you can't say what you did. I fixed a/c when they broke but did get into odd places that can't be talked about, wouldn't take nothing for the experience.

I would not worry about being a day late.   This is something we need to do year round.   The guys and gals that are out there need to know 24/7/365 how grateful we are for their dedication and sacrifice every day, not just on the one day the government reminds us to tell them.

There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think of guys I served with, those that are serving now and even those that paid the ultimate price.   To me, every day is a veterans/memorial day.

God bless them all, every one.

Yea. I think kerry found out that you can't bad mouth your country and fellow servicemen and women and then be the commander in chief. Now if I could figure out why people let slick willie get away with that I would be ok. :(

God Bless the USA
By:
Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again
with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars
to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom
and they can't take that away.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota
to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas
from sea to shining sea.
From Detroit down to Houston
and New York to L.A.,
There's pride in every American heart
and it's time we stand and say:

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died
who gave that right to me,
And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God Bless the U.S.A.

I'm proud to be an American
where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died

And I gladly stand up next to you
and defend her still today,
