Britt in 45/70???
« on: November 13, 2004, 01:58:50 AM »
One of my local dealers has a brittish rifle in 45/70 its one of those conversions and i forget which brand it is but its not a Gibbs.  I have to say it looks awesome and does anyone have one?? I was just wondering how good they handle the 45/70 round and i wonder how hot it can be reloaded  to?(dumb question but some guns can take higher powder charges and they do list some higher in the books but all i have is older reloading books) I've been wanting a 45/70.........but kind of unsure which one while the 1895CB marlin w hexagon barrel caught my eye so did this britt too.  Ya I know when in doubt buy both right??                                              BigBill

Is there an AAA for gun buying?? :)  I got the disease really bad and i sure miss "Buckweet???"  Or gunboards brother hasn't sent any messages latey and i hope he is ok.

BigBill - I think you had best stick with factory fodder for the older rifles, the 1873 Trapdoor and the earlier lever actions in that Brit conversion - I do not think they will stand up to the hot loads for todays levers or speciality guns.

I think that if you want a 45-70 you can hotrod, the lever actin Marlin will be the one.  HTH.  Mikey.

Hey Mikey have you heard from Buckweet lately??     BigBill

I always wanted a Sharps Quigley Rifle but i'm not sure which caliber? There are a lot of different old calibers like 45/90 and up to 50/120 but i'm not sure what brass cases are available for us yet I haven't really looked into it.  I passed on a Marlin 1895CB 45/70 a while back for $450 "new" and when i went back it was gone.  I'm going to have to wait to get some more mad money or I'll ask for one for christmas.  My son is bugging me what i want this year.  Last christmas he got me a German 98k 8mm mauser and for fathers day he got me a savage 93V17 in 17HMR.   The kid is still single and he is a mechanical engineer now.  To be young again??  My old man always said that and i never knew what he meant till i got old.

BibBill - no, I haven't heard from Buckweet at all.  The last time I heard from him was almost a year ago, or just shortly after he headed for Kuwait or Saudi Arabia or where the hay ever he went - he sent a post back asking for snack type foods as the stuff they were eating just didn't hold them over from one meal to the next, I guess.  Anyhow, I ordered a bunch of stuff from Hickory Farms and had it shipped to his APO address (Hickory Farms said they shipped there) but never heard back from him as to whether he received it or not.

I hope he is alright.  Mikey.

can i assume that Buckweet is a member serving in the armed forces overseas?
" oh we didn't sink the bismarck, and we didn't fight at all, we spent our time in Norfolk and we really had a ball. chasing after women while our ship was overhauled, living it up on grapefruit juice and sick bay alcohol"

kevin 303:  Buckweet is one of our original members.  He is a heavy freight hauler and went to Iraq about a year ago.  Last we heard from him was around February when he issued a major plea for American snack food - I guess he and most of the other truckers over there were suffering from culinary culture shock (lol), but we haven't heard from him since.  Mikey.
