boar hunt

I visited the Tioga hunting preserve booth at the Syracuse sport show yesterday. I am considering trying for a pig there as it is not the long trip to the Carolinas that some of the others are.  Have any of you on the forum hunted there?  

I also have a brochere for Waccamaw Hunting Services in South Carolina.  They have 15,000 acres and have a 2 day hunt for $500.  It says you can kill 2 hogs per day.  Does sound right to you?  4 pigs for
$500 Sounds too good to be true.  

Second, will my 7-30 with Hornady 120 ballistic tips hit hard enough to do the job. I can load up some 139 Sierras I use in my 7X57 Ruger rifle or use my 35 Rem Barrel.  I just don't want to wound any animals trying to get through the gristle plate.

You will want to load a bullet that will not frament... A heavy built bullet that will mushroom and retain weight as well as possible... Barnes X bullets are great if your rifle will shoot them well. Nosler Partitions are good, Sierra Pro Hunter bullets are also great for this. These obviously are not the only ones, but again, go for a heavy built bullet that will hold together. Frankly, I would go with the 7X57 with a round nose offering if you can find one for it... I am a real fan of using round nose bullets on wild boar. I've used the Sierra 130 SSSP on one hog of about 90 pounds from a 14" TC and it did fine. The 120 BT will do OK IF but ONLY IF you place it just right. In the neck or quartering away into the lungs and the hog is down and out. But in the lungs it will run and you might or might not find it as there likely won't be much blood trail.

Personally I consider the 7-30 a bit light for regular use on hogs unless they are on the small side like I shot. I knew in advance I was only shooting for eating size hogs and wasn't shooting on larger ones so used it after a fallow deer hunt.
