new haddi owner range report
« on: November 13, 2004, 01:22:21 PM »
I just got my new .243 ultra varmiter a couple days ago.  I put my Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40 scope on it and bore sighted it.  Then I cleaned it really good, I used some bore polish, sprayed some remmington dry lube in the trigger, and then took it to the range this afternoon.  For the first time at the range with it, I am very impressed.  I was able to shoot a 7/8 inch 4 shot group with 1 flyer that I pulled.  I was only able to shoot 40 rounds through it and I hope that it will get better after I shoot it some more.  I also plan on doing the "O" ring trick to it when I can get to the hardware store.

Welcome to GBO! :D  Sounds like you have a good one there, what ammo are you using? Those are great groups for an out of the box .243 especially if it is shot at 100yds.

lgall;

Sounds like your having fun, like the rest of us. Yup... that rifle should shoot better over time. You did the right thing by cleaning the crap out of it. When I got mine, I just cleaned it a little. Took a long time before I got mine to shoot, but that was my fault.
Now all you got to do is shoot and enjoy. :grin:  :grin:  :grin:
Keep us posted in the future.

I am shooting Remmington 80grain factory loads at 100 yards.  I took everyone's advise with the load selection as well as cleaning and the bore polish.  Thank you and I hope to continue to get results like that.

I do have one question that I was hoping to get some advise on.  I have a site vise, but with the break open action it is a pain to use.  What other types work well with this type of action.  Most of my groups were around 2-3 inches because I could not get a very steady rest.  I think that I could shoot consistent sub moa groups with a good rest.  If anyone has some advise about what type of rest to use that would be much appreciated.

I use a Caldwell Rock Jr and rear bag with the Rock placed below the hinge. This allows the barrel to tip down for reloading and cleaning. hth, Tim

Welcome Igall :D
I'm the new owner of a .243 too. I use a Harris bipod and lay down in the bed of my truck. I'm not at a range though, I'm at Utah Lake on the west side.

I've put 40 rounds of Remington 100 grain shells through mine, and I'm gonna build some loads for it this week I think. I'll have brass for it Monday. I'm gonna try some 70 grain Hornadys or Barns. I like velocity hehehehe :)

Anyway, keep us posted, and welcome to the club.
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens :eek:
