Gun season started here in KY so went bright and early trying to get one with my T/C in .357 magnum so I can add some experience to the discussions@ this caliber. Well, I saw 5 deer (3 does, 2 bucks) but they were all too far away and on the other side of the hollow I was in. At least I saw some! I did see ten turkey that came within  35 yards of me and this gave me a thrill until they wandered off. Sooo, maybe tomorrow morning I can get some deer to think they're turkeys and get close enough to shoot! (I moved my stand to the other side of the hoolow too, maybe this will help?).

Watch out what you wish for.

I've been taking my 30-30TC out for the past couple of nights.  I had a nice spike come to within 6 yards of me tonight.  There is NO WAY I could have gotten the gun up to shoot at him without him noticing me.  He came in at the ONE place I wouldn't have seen him until he was right on top of me.  He was there for only about 30 seconds, then he bolted after a doe that was hanging out behind some brush about 100 yards away.

Talk about getting your heart going... I was caught a bit off guard when I turned around and was basically eye to eye with him.

Moving your stand to the other side of the hollow will absolutly ensure the deer will now be on the OTHER SIDE of the hollow  :)  :)
Deer just seem to know these things for some reason :roll:

NAAA that wont work cuz they will know better.  What ya need to do is set up a blind on the other side of the hollow and sit a dummy in your treestand so as to fool them rascals (and by dummy I do not mean Im  volunterring myself  :-D .)

Guys,
 You were right about setting up on the other side of the hollow. I didn't see a deer Sunday morning! I will try again hopefully next week. I did see those turkeys again and two squirrels that got close enough to probably shoot a spitwad on!!
