MY FIRST 22

was a falling block of unknown make,it was a 22 Long ,beat up with a wired stock,it never had a 22 Long in it because it would not fit, rarely had a Short mostly CB's at 20 cents for a 50 round -round tin.The real sight was a V notch with the left ear broken off half way down. With a piece of Banana and a CB cap I killed many gophers for 5 cents apiece and was in demand--the year was 1943 and from that gun and a Red Ryder BB gun I was later able to shoot Expert in the Army.

I learned to shot on a single shot too but it was a bolt action Glenfield (early Marlin).   I would put rabbit on the table with that thing for many years and my son still has it.

After learning how to make every shot count as a kid, the repeaters I have had since then seemed like a waste of money and I am now back to the singles again.

I was nine years old on my birthday my dad took me to the trap range and let me shoot this single shot Savage 16 gage. I still have that gun. It was almost too much for me,  but I got through 25 rounds, hit about 5 targets. After that I was quite proud of myself.
Ohhhh, I hate when that happens

well.......my Dad had a single shot .22 RF Remington that I got to shoot first, then a Red Ryder BB Gun around my tenth birthday we got pretty cute with.  But the Big thrill was a couple years later we went to the range and he let me shoot his 45-70 govt. Winn/Hotchkiss.  WOW, that was SomPin Else!  That was a Buffalo Gun!!!

you guys might think this is hokey but i feel i am among friends so here goes.

i remember my first shot, i was maybe 8 or 9- it was from a western field bolt .410 after squirrel hunting with dad. we found an old metal bucket in the woods and he set it up for me and the .410 set me down, lol....on my butt that is.

last month, while slipping between those same trees with my 12 gauge mossberg, i found that bucket again. i dragged it out and put a lod of #6's in it again for old times sake, and i took it home with me. its making a nice flower pot. :)

ahhhh nostalgia.

My dad gave me a Stevens model 15 when I was about 8, his dad gave it to him when he was about 10. I refinished it in 1959 and shot it a lot for many years. I haven't shot it now for a long time, it started spitting fire as the result of being worn out, I guess. Still looks nice, though.

Hey quick, that can probably be "fixed" so it shoots safely again if your interested, it may need another bolt but might be able to adjust the current one. About 25 years ago I found an old stevens single shot bolt at the dump with no bolt. I Called the company and after some discussion they sent me a bolt!!! (Cost was only about $6.00!!) I Put it in, headspaced it and it became my son's first .22 rifle. I cut the barrel and recrowned it with a file in the cellar, filed a new front sight notch and put the old sight back in, my son and I cut about 3" off the buttstock and he refinished it himself at about 8 years of age, Its a beauty!!! Your bolt shoud be a doable project....<><....

Still have my first, a Mossberg single shot bolt. Got it when I was 13 yrs. old (46 yrs ago). Still use it to control chipmonks and greys with Super Aquilla. Wouldn't take anything for it.

my first was a marlin 60 22 rim fire tube feeder that i still have. bought it about 1980 or so. the receiver is beat up where the bolt hits the frame, it gets touched up with a file once in a while. irons sights and a pretty well worn out magazine spring tube.

it still shoots as good i can !
