test: 20ga tracker II at 150yds
« on: November 15, 2004, 12:38:00 PM »
I had  an opportunity to try my 20ga tracker II at longer range this weekend.  I figured that the max I would shoot it at was in the 150yd range and I wanted to see what it actually did.

The last group I fired at 100yds was 3".

I was shooting at a 6"bull and the scope on the gun is a fixed 2.5 compact.

With a zero of slightly under 100yds, the first shot  was 6" low but centered.  Adding 1.25" to my elevation placed the shot 3" low at 150 and centered.

I was using the Winchester platinum tip.

I would have shot more but I think that the results were adequate.

Whoever wrote that you have to clean the rifle and those slugs don't like their own fouling was right.   As long as I have been keeping the groups small and the barrel clean, the first few shots go exactly where they are supposed to.

Good hunting

Are those 3" winchesters?
Have you tried the 3" Federal Hydra Shocks? They perform nicely in my TrackerII.  2.75" @ 100yds is normal with these shells.

No, just the standard 2.75.

The win slug is ballistically better than most of the others, but I haven't tried the rem cor lock yet either.  Do they make that in 20?

Hopefully on monday I'll have the chance to break it in.
