NEED HELP
« on: November 15, 2004, 12:59:13 PM »
I just pick up a set of scales for reloading for my uncle, but the problem is he couldn't seem to find the directions on how to zero them in and since i am new to reloading i don't know how to use them. They are made by RCBS. Is there any way you guys could get me a set of directions on them. If you could is would be greatly appreciated.

I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

RCBS has about the best customer service policy of anyone on earth!  Give them a call, or e-mail customer service and I'm sure they'll fix you right up.

Now, to balance a beam scale (non-electronic) here's all you do.
1.  Find a good stable, level, draft free spot to set up the beam scale.  Make sure you check the surface with a spirit level.  Place your fingertips lightly on the table surface to check for vibrations, OK?

2.  Make certain all the slide weights are set over the zero "0" notches.

3. Observe the beam readout/pointer to see if it lines up with the center mark on the frame after waiting for the beam to settle down from swinging.  If it does not line up in the center exactly, move the large Jack-Screw Leg under the frame to bring the beam centerline into exact center.

*If you cannot get it to balance, check to see if the beam knifedges are in the center of their cradle and freely moving.

If your  scale is used and you are concerned about its accuracy, safety or function you can ship it to RCBS for checking and repair.

Lyman sells a check weight kit that let's you test your scale over a fairly wide range.  Check your local dealer or on line.

look over the knife edges on your balance beam, and the bearing surfaces that support the edges to make sure they aren't damaged or gunked up.  I keep my scale base covered to protect those bearing surfaces.
