what is the difference between the handi rifle and ultra rifle? will the ultra rifle barrels fit on my handi?

the ultra is a "better" and heavier version of the handi. i belive ultra barrels will fit a handi reciever

thanks alot..i was wondering because i was in the market for a new barrel..i have the 45-70 and love it... just want something new for deer and chucks out past 200 yds.

It is a better and heavier version? Not in my part of the country, it may be polished a bit better and have Laminated stocks but the reciever is exactly the same. The barrels are a couple of inches longer on the average and may or may not be polished better but otherwise are the same and they all interchange. I have Ultra barrels and Handi barrels all on the same Handi reciever....<><.... :grin:

What it amounts to is you pay a little more to get what some feel is a prettier gun. It may or may shot as well as someone elses Handi... :roll:

is it safe to buy a barrel from another person and put it on my handi, or would i be better off to send my receiver, stock and forend to NEF so that it can be checked?

Yes it can be safe if done safely and properly. It is being done now on a more frequent basis. That said, before you try it do a little research here and ask for help if unsure of ANYTHING. Only fit barrels to actions that have been manufactured for the appropriate pressure levels. This was a kind of a shadowy back-room type of going on until H&R added the extra fee and has since expanded greatly...go slow, ask questions and be safe....<><.... :grin:

The best way to go would be to buy the barrel from H&R and have them fit it for you. That way they will stand behind any problems that might arise of the barrel and barrel fitting.... :grin:
