44SPL bullet in 44Mag.

I've have stumbled on a load that might fill a niche for some people. I worked up a load for my 629 Classic w/ a 5 inch barrel. So while at the range, I decided to shoot some of them out of my 44mag barrel. It's the 44Spl. from Speer, 200gr. GDHP. Well shooting at 100yds, I was able to get a group of about 3 inches for 10 shots out of the Ultra w/ the 44mag barrel. The powder used was Unique, 12grs. and I was not really trying for a MOA group. Also was using a 8" shoot-n-see target. The group was high and to the left. Since then, I've not been able to use the same load since I 've run out of Unique.
But this load shows promise of a good varmit load.
Hope this might help some with their 44 Maggies.

when i get me reloader, i'm going to load some 'yote loads i'm looking at a load that sends a 180 grn bullet at just over 2000 fps. i think it would bout knockem down. what do you think?  :grin:  :grin:  :grin:  :grin:

You don’t have to wait until you get a reloading press.   Just buy .44 special ammo to shot.   It is done all the time.   Just clean the chamber good so you don’t build up a ring in it is all you need to worry about.   Guys have been doing this for 30 years to cut down both on cost and recoil when practicing with their .44 magnum pistols.

You can also safely shoot a .38 special shell in a .357 magnum or even a .357 maximum chamber.
