Contender listing-WOW!
« on: November 16, 2004, 01:13:44 AM »
I'm wanting to get a ammo display board with as many contender rounds that I can come up with, so I started pulling together a list of available chamberings for the contender. I thought you guys might be interested in seeing the list that I have so far.  Please feel free to add on if I missed something or let me know if I have the same round listed with 2 different names on them. I'm not familiar with some of the rounds on there.

How about the Lee Jurras Howdah Contender Pistols? Wildcats based on I believe the 500 Nitro Express cartridge.

Here they are:
375, 416, 460, 475, 500, and 577 Jurras wildcats.

No, I don't have any samples but I seem to remember seeing them in one of Dean Grennells DBI books.

Happy hunting!

Hey, steelbanger. Did I get the Jurras right? i.e. 577 Jurras, or are they called something different? That is a new family to me.

Jerry J,
Do you have a listing of Bower's and VVC's contender cartridges? I'm not really familiar with them, but I'll add them in if you can get me a listing. I included all of Reeder's GNR rounds that I was aware of, but if I missed some, let me know.

The list is updated again.

Flatlander,
I have to pick up some of those padded envelopes today and then I'll get that cartridge mailed to you.

Looking over that growing list it occurred that there's simply no end to the way we'll spend money, is there?

Thanks Steelbanger.

Amazing, isn't it. Actually, I'm having quite a bit of fun just getting the list made. On the last count we were in the 175 neighborhood. It would be cool to get them all (either rounds or barrels   ) but I'll be happy with what I can come up with.

I'm doing some thinking with my dad to figure out how we can make a display case that will hold the rounds securely and allow a label of some sort to be near each one and still be able to see each round clearly. I know that there is a plastic one on the market, but I'm going to try to come up with something that I can make out of some nice wood with a glass front on to keep little fingers out. Maybe some wire to hold them in place.

5 mm remington rimfire mag.
475 jdj A stright 45-70 case
410 ga. shotshell
209x50 and 209x45 muzzleloading barrels

I have never heard of a 28 ga
Shotgun ontender barrel. Who made or makes it?

the real question you should be asking is: is there any animal on earth that has not been taking by a contender?

A regular forum member who posts on several other forums has a 28 ga. shotgun barrel for his Contender. The foreend anchor nuts that are typically dovetailed in a more common barrel have to be soldered on the 28 ga. He has stated that the barrel is quite thin and very whippy. I believe it was made by Van Horn.

TommyT:

The 22 mag is listed as 22 WMR and the 30-30 is below the 7.62x39. It kind of messes things up by splitting the 30 cal rounds. I'll go in and move it around here in a little bit.

Anyone feeling brave and want to start a new post with a comprehensive encore list?    I think I'll pass on that one.

flatlander - I didn''t notice it, T/C made .44 Mag shotshells for a time in the early days. .44 Mag brass with a plastic bell holding the shot - looks pretty cool. Discontinued due to politics at the time I believe. I also have the .44 Mag barrel with the removable choke. I think the original owner got the set, shot a few of the shells, and put it away.

Anyway, I don't know that you will find these around, I have a few I would be willing to part with, I just don't know how I could legally get them to you.

Might as well add the 250 Savage to the list, mine is from SSK.

If I'm not mistaken SSK and BullBerry both used to chamber Contender barrels in 300 Savage.

Theres also the .300 B&S ( Bell m & Stewart)  The 22,6mm,6.5mm and 358 Super Bower, the 30 Bower Alaskan.
