More newbie questions
« on: November 17, 2004, 05:27:19 AM »
I have got the bug, I am enjoying myself and have a problem.  I have a spot with coon sign all over and am dying to set some more traps but I will not be in the area until monday after thanksgiving.  The question I have is how long will they coon be running in upstate NY?  I know it depends on the weather but for anyone in this climate, is there a date where things slow down, like early or mid december?  Or what temps have them slowing down in their travels where it is best to pack up the coon traps and work on fox and coyote.  Also, I want to make some drowning sets with a baited cubby, what works??  I have heard marshmallows do.  How about muskrat for bait?  Are coons carnivores in that they eat mammals??  I know they will eat crayfish and fish but will a muskrat carcass pull them into the set??

Thanks
A bad day of hunting is better than a good day at the golf course.
