I purchased a Winchester spotting scope from Cabela's.

It's 15-45x by 60mm.

On 15x everything is satisfactory. However at 45x I can't quite get it to focus as well. Images just aren't crisp at all.

I know that I'm not going to get much spotting scope for $190. Should I return it? Or is this common to optics?

At 100 yards, I have trouble making out .35 caliber holes in the black part of the target. It's actually easier on 15x than on 45x. However, the weather was overcast and damp.

Yep you got what you pay for. send it back, and get a better one. pinridge is a good one ,it will be worth it. :cry: [/img]

That is common with many spotting scopes. As the power increases the contrast and clarity decreases.

Bushnell sells fixed power ocular lens that fit their spotting scope which are supposed to have better edge-edge clarity. It's typical to lose clarity with variable ocular piece espeially as you go from center of viewing area to outside edges. Perhaps you could try extra fixed ocular lens with higher magnification if available for your scope.
