Stuck screw-in choke help

I bought a used Remeington 870 barrel with a screw in choke. It wasn't taken very good care of. Now I can't get the choke out even after soaking in penerating solvent  and useing downward pressure on choke wrench and even applying some heat to barrel in hopes of expanding barrel..I'm begining to think it was used with steel shot that peened the choke into place I don't have a lath, mores the pity, and need some "I've been there" suggestions...Thanks fellas..sf340

Stick it in the freezer if you have one, let it stay overnight have all your wrenches ready so when you take it out you can try to remove it before it starts warming up this may help.    JIM

If you haven't yet, try Kroil. Let it soak in a jar of some for a week or so and see what happens. That stuff is magic sometimes!

I have even used liquid nitrogen to shrink the steel..  Be very careful with this stuff,,  The deep freeze usually works but if severely peened into place it may have to be cut out.  I have removed a few that way and it's nerve wracking.  If it's a standard remchoke they can be peeled.  If it's a hardened one they cannot.  I have seen them bored out with a lathe and a small carbide boring bar....that's really fun!

I have tried all of the suggestions mentioned with the exception of liquid nitrogen.  Sometimes they work. Sometimes they don't. Have also tried alternately tightening and loosening when the choke will turn just a little.  When all else has failed, I have so far been able to get the 12 gauge chokes out with a Remington choke wrench and an air impact gun. The barrels and chokes have not been damaged. The Remington choke wrench has a 3/8" square hole that lets you use the impact . The last one I did had soaked in Kroil for over a week and had not penetrated at all. The choke threads were dry and rusty when I finally got it out.

Try boiling the barrel end in plain water for a hour then immediatly apply bees wax to the threads and then try to remove the tube.

As was stated if peened in place an impact wrench or lathe may be required.

I actually had to have a bar of steel welded across my choke wrench to give me more leverage. I had to shock it loose with a hammer but it came out. It had been rusted in but eventually broke free. I had to really bear down on the wrench before twisting it. I  gripped the barrel in a vise with wooded jaws too. Good Luck.

I haven't tried it but dry ice may be more readily available than liquid nitrogen. If nobody in your area sells it ask for it at the grocery store on the day they receive stock (it is used when shipping frozen foods). Just make sure to wear thick gloves when handling cuz it will freeze flesh on contact.

Thanks to all for suggestions on how to remove the stuck choke. What finally worked was to soak the tube in the barrel (I set it up and got back to it 3 weeks later)  I then used an impact wrench that was adapted to the 3/8 inch cutout in the Reminton choke tube and it slowly backed out...cleaned the threads with kroil and a stiff brush in a slow rpm drill and it is as good as new....WHEW!..thanks again..sf340
