Ruger Red Label

Well, it finally happened. I sold my AR15 SP1, and used the money to buy a Ruger Red Label. I've been wanting the Ruger for many, many years and I can hardly believe that I'm finally going to get one. It should be here tomarrow - I hope. I'm all a-quiver!

This is my second season with my RRL. I got mine in 28ga with a set of .410 inserts. I love it for opening day dove an for ride around quail. Sure yours will be as much a joy to you. :grin:

Believe me, it wasn't easy. I bought the AR new in 1978, and it's been in my safe every since. I shot it here and there, and used it for about three years in IPSC matches, when I was able to do that. It was in mint condition, and I still had the manual, and the original sales reciept. I decided to trade it for something that I could get more use out of. My wife said that she's going to buy me a Ruger Ranch Rifle to replace it for Christmas - next year. I love that woman.

I've wanted one every since Ruger came out with them, but had never fired one untill the opening day of dove season in 2003. It just fits me well. I hit a dove with the first shot, and gave the bird to the guns owner. I've looked at Brownings and Berettas, and they just don't shoulder as well for me. I was with my daughter at a NWTF JAKES event las year, and one of the instructors was letting the kids shoot his 28 gauge RL like yours with the 410 tubes in it. My daughter loved it, and shot it well. I didn't get to shoot that one, but it sure was a pretty little thing. I can't wait to shoot it.

I've never owned a Ruger Mini 14. However I have shot many of them. I do own a Rock River Arms AR15 A2 Tasc Rifle. I don't think you can replace an AR15 with a Mini 14. Having said that if you like the Mini 14 (which I do also) and you want a nice little rifle for plinking and that kind of stuff, the Mini 14 is a heck of a little rifle !

I picked up the RRL today, and it's a beauty. I spent the afternoon getting it all cleaned and oiled, and tomarrow morning it's going rabbit hunting and then to our local trap and skeet club for a turkey shoot. They don't really shoot turkeys, but you can win frozen ones. It's kind of a ritzy place, and I like to go and look at all the shotguns. Lots of gold and engraving.

I had a Mini 14 about 11 years ago, but I got divorced, and it was one of the things that I had to sell. I'd like to get a stainless/sythetic Ranch Rifle. Maybe it can't replace the AR, but it will give me something to do with all the .223 I have.

I couldn't wait anymore, and got up this morning and went rabbit hunting with the RL. The rabbits weren't cooperating today, but I did get one. The weather was crisp, cool and perfect. I got home just in time to get the rabbit in the freezer, and get to the trap and skeet club. We didn't win a turkey, but had a lot of fun shooting with my wife, and looking at all the fancy trap guns on the firing line. Great day!

I'd been wanting a Red Label for a long time and finally bought one a few months ago.  First time I took it out out for doves and I hit the first one that flew by with it, first time I took it out for rabbits and got the first one with it.
I was starting to think it was magic.  But the magic wore off as I missed the first woodcock I flushed while hunting with it.  
Still love the gun, it's a 20ga.  
Enjoy yours.  (I sold an Encore to get mine but kept my Bushmaster AR15 ( I love that gun too!)
