Here are a couple of photos of castor mound sets using 330s---quick to set and a super efficient set.
The bottom pic is of a beaver that has taken up residence in a culvert.
So far this culvert has produced a pair of adults and today a large 2 year old.

Here are a couple examples of how I make my castor mounds with 330s.
I am having troubles with site moderation,so this evening after my trapping duties are done,I will work on this series of photos and the catch series.

Well I am from the school of Tom Olson on beaver trapping.  Tom you taught me everything I know on beaver trapping.

I am a canine trapper at heart and soul, so when Tom was telling me to just fence them in I thought NO WAY IN HECK is this going to work.

Well two weeks ago I got a call (ADC) to remove beaver from a place.  So not being a beaver trapper I asked Tom and it was also a good thing I was in charge of the demo list at FTA last year and had on site teaching also from Tom.

Well this (ADC) job didn't need to know previous to this job I was at 3 beaver total in my life.  So to the job I go traps in hand and canoe on the truck.  I did everything the way Tom showed me and explained to me on here and BAM!!!!  I am now a beaver Trapper.

Tom Thanks so much.  I will know be able to buy a life supply of MM1 and MM2 because of your help.  All beaver gone in 5 days (3 Checks)

Thanks again Tom.

ohio requires that any body grippers over 7 inches be completly submerged under water .how would you use castor mounds with the trap under water?
thx.

Fish,a couple days later these sets were under water--still works fine.Just make sure you block sides well. When I trapped in Missouri, they required total submersion--no problem, this set still works.

Have you ever used snares at these castor mound sets? I was going to mention what fishdaddy already mentioned about large body grip traps had to be under water. The fur buyer here in athens county said he has used dive sticks on castor mounds with good success, but I have better luck getting beaver to go through a snare than a 330. Worm

Hey Tom, I tried the castor mound with snares and was able to connect on 2. One was about a 2 year old and the other was a kit after I had trapped most of the beaver out of the area (it was a nuisance job). Still wish I could use those 330's like you showed in the picture. Thanks, Worm.

For a  point just because  this set is called a castor mound set  , you dont have to have a mound of mud or leaves to put castor scent on.  A big  mud mound to put scent on is good eye appeal and attracts beaver to them if in a big open area ... Ive just put out castor scent  on  a stick behind trap and it works just fine... someplaces you cant make a scent mount and i found  out the castor stick works just as good without mound...... now if your in a big open stretch of water  that is shallow  you can make a big mound  one to two feet higher and water and set it up with footholds or conibear and it will draw  otherwise uninteresed bvr ESPECIALLY if scented up with castor.... Good luck to all  you new bvr trappers.  Tom did you set any underice bvr traps this year?  My line is abit easier as ive got a foot of snow to cover  sets with now, but its melting fast lol....:>)

Lee,I will wait till ice out to continue beaver feaver.I travel to get to my beaver areas ,and it just makes a lot more sense to take a bunch in the spring, than piece meal under the ice.

Tom,

The pics are great!! You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of sets made in shelf ice like I was asking about on the other forum at all would you?

Here's what happened the 2nd night after we set our first 330!!

Not a real big beaver, but it was a big confidence booster!!

Thanks for all your advice, and I'm sure I'll be asking alot more questions in the near future, just can't get enough of those flat-tails!!

Looking at the pictures and the posts I am about ready to go out and buy some 330s.  My question is, is the trigger placed on the bottom, I didn't see the triggers in the pictures.

All my 330 triggers are on the bottom,if you cant see them niether can the beaver.
I want an open window for the beavers as they enter the trap.I bend each trigger wire over. When you look at one of my set 330s,the trigger has the shape of a rounded m.The top of the triggers is below the rivets on each jaw.You get less refusals than when you have a trigger hanging down in their face, same with otter. Also less fur damage.
 I also sell 330s.
