Any one use a Lyman/Ideal 311407 mold?
« on: November 17, 2004, 04:59:49 PM »
Just wondering a buddy just gave me the blocks. I have to buy some handles yet as all my other molds are Lee. This one looks like a good one for all my 30 cal cast needs. here is the info I found on it.

This is a Loverin bullet that is simply a flat nose version of #311467. While the #311467 is a great choice for .30-06, .303, etc. this bullet is a terrific choice for the .30-30 and .307 cartridges as well as any other .30 cal.

 Lyman
#311407
Weight: 180 grains
Style: FNGC
Size: .309-311"

Any one who has used this mold I would like to hear about your expirience with it. jim
Said I never had much use for one, never said I didn't know how to use it.

I have no first hand info.  Lyman 45 states that it should cast .314 and the largest suggested sized diameter is .312.  Sounds interesting.  JB

I have heard that it will run .309 to .314 depending on the alloy used. I guess I will not know until I make some up and see what they measure.

311407 is a mould in high demand. When they show up on the market, they are gobbled up. They are no more accurate than the round nose version (311467) but your mould has a meplat which helps in hunting and can be used in leverguns.

There is no need to lube all those grooves. I lube just the grooves inside of the case neck.

The top two grooves of these Loverin designs are smaller and should should enter the barrel and rest on the lands. The rest should be sized to fit the rifle throat. This could be anywhere from .309-.312 depending on the rifles. If you have a custom levergun, your smith should be able to tell you the throat diameter.

You have a great mould..good luck..
