I have a .223 in a handirifle and I am using 40gr nosler balistic tips with 23 gr of 4198. its suposed to be haulin at around 3600fps. Every once in a while I get a case that sticks. Usualy i am in the field shoting p dogs and dont have a rod to get it out. Since this prob. started i have caried a rod to get it out. other times i have to work the ejector around it with a pocket knife until i can slide it out. What could this problem be caused by? The last time I only had maybe 2 out of 50 that stuck. But there have been times when everyother one stuck. any info or advise is welcome. Thanks guys. Hank.

I have also heard that the ejectors go out in these guns, but that cant be the problem, cause it still ejects most of em. Plus the darn thing aint even a year old yet.

Henrey 1 I wouldn't no why you are having problems,I have had 2 .223 handr rifles never had a case stick in one.Some of them eject over my shoulder and some don't eject but a few inches.Never had one stick(knock on my block head).All I fire is factory ammo because I don't reload(too poor).Are you sure the loads aren't a little too hot,Have you checked them over a chronograph?

Most failures to eject(FTE) are caused by a dirty chamber. It needs to be sparkling clean with no trace of oil or solvent. If you continue to have the problem, polishing the chamber should fix it. I use a bore mop wrapped with a flitz or JB bore compound patch. Put the mop on a piece of cleaning rod and chuck it up in your drill, polish it for a couple minutes and then clean the barrel well. You can also use an empty case by removing the primer, insert a screw into the flash hole and cut the head off, chuck the "stud" into your drill and coat the case with flitz or JB. The only FTE that I've had after polishing was due to not wiping the chamber after cleaning at the range. I use a patch wrapped bore mop to clean the chamber. hth, Tim

Ok, I will give that a try. What exactly is it called? JB gun bore cleaner?

J-B Bore Cleaning Compound, non-embedding. Sportsmans Warehouse has it. You can also use flitz or Maas metal polish, available at your local hardware store.

When you have an ejector rifle of any type, it becomes very important that any and all lubricants be completely removed from the brass before firing.

That is after doing all that quicktodo said.

k thanks guys, I am gona try to get some polish and polish it. But I spose it could be the brass too. I use One Shot spray on lube and have only cleaned them off a few times. I will have to start doing that too. Thanks for your wonderful help. its much appriciated. Hank.
