.223 Ultra sticks cases after change
« on: November 18, 2004, 01:35:46 PM »
Help. Using instructions on the forum I modified the ejector in my .223 Ultra. Before the rifle ejected perfectly with the only problem being trying to dig the cases out of hay fields. Now about 30% of the cases stick in the chamber. Any ideas ? Thanks

What instructions are you referring to?

If you are referring to the ejector to extractor conversion, it doesn't help stuck cases, it may be worse....

Can't solve your problem but this might help. There was a post on here
awhile back on filing a groove in your barrel so you can use a knife or
something similar to pop a stuck out. I did mine and first time out I had to use it. Very conveinent!!. Very easy to do as the bbl. is soft. That post is on here somewhere but I can't find it. Even had a picture.
Come on guy's, let's help him out.
I heard N.E.F. was going to start putting an extractor groove in.

I am not sure but I think there is something on Fred's site about the notch filed in the barrel to remove a stuck case.  In any case always take a short brass rod, less than bore dia to slide down the barrel to dislodge the stuck case.

Yes, make sure it is brass and not steel or you could do damage to your barrel.   Like Road King said, these barrels are soft so you don’t want to scratch the bore.
