Author Topic: Bullets for 6mm TCU (Read 476 times)

New member here. I've been handgun hunting for the last 3 years or so with an Encore in 260 Rem and 350 Rem Mag. Recently I purchased a G2 frame and have a 6mm TCU barrel on order from Bullberry. I'm looking at using it for javelina and whitetail. The whitetail here in AZ are a tiny sub-species called Coues. A very large buck might go 120 lb live weight. I'm looking for any information or suggestions for suitable hunting bullets for the 6mm TCU. I'm considering the Sierra 80gr single shot pistol, 85 gr Nosler partition, 85 gr Barnes X or Triple Shock, or the Swift 90 gr Scirocco. I've used the partitions on elk and javelina and was happy with the performance but wondering if others might be a better choice.

How long is the barrel? If a 10" you may want to use varmint bullets as the velocity ill be rather low. If a 14" than the 85 Partitions or Barnes will be good choices. Expansion is critical in these small calibers, but it has to be controlled at the impact velocity.

my first choice would be the sierra 80gr sspb, followed by the 80gr hornady ssp. if ya can find em, as sierra has quit makin the single shot bullets as far as i know.
....also the speer 80gr bullet would make a good choice, from everything i've heard on it.
the 80gr nosler balistic tip should be a good one, but i can't remember any reports on it in 6mm handguns, other than good accuracy. :?

Thanks for the info. The barrel will be 14". I'm having them taper it to 0.55 at the muzzle to allow for easier offhand shooting. What I'd really like to do is test them all out by firing them into wet newspaper at various velocities. I doubt that I'll have the time to do this before javelina season. Actually, I'm not even sure the I'll have the barrel by then.

I have a 12" 6TCU that I use in Southern AZ also. I have been using 70gr Nosler BT's. Seem to work great, been hunting on and off for the last week with no luck

How do the 70 gr Noslers hold up on game. My barrel will have a 1:10 twist so it should stabilize the heavier stuff. Getting adequate velocities is another matter. I read in some earlier posts that Hodgdon's has load data for the 6TCU, but I wasn't able to find it on their site. Can anyone out there point me to the load data or post it here?

there is data in hodgdons annual manual. it is in magazine form, and fairly cheap.
online....you could get some from stevespages.com

i get 2700fps in fireform loads with 80gr bullets and h335.
my current 70gr bullet load is only doing 2730fps. havn't played with it much lately. :? .....but i will later :-)
