Another one grenades!
« on: November 19, 2004, 05:37:42 PM »
If I can figure out how to post pictures, I have them of a Glock 22 that sheared off the rails on the frame.  Officer in Washington State had shot appx 4800s thru the gun, and was shooting Speer 180 grain gold dots at the time.

I'll edit and add pic if I can figure this out.

Its because its a .40 cal,  as much pressure as a .45 and the casing is thinner than a 9mm, its a dangerous round.  I know people will chew me up and down for saying that, but i have seen glocks and other handguns do the same thing yours has done(only in .40 cal)  my question to you is: Are you reloading or using factory ammo?

It's not my gun. And he was using factory ammo.  I'll get more details next week. And maybe I can figure out about having GBO host pics later.

If that is the same photo that I saw - this was one of the first that started the recall on the Glocks. The ammo being shot had nothing to do with the failure. The failure was caused from the slide and rails not fitting right. The rails - through some type of malfunction - were off set. It caused un-even ware. Failing with the amount of rounds (3000+) that was being tested became a factor in Glock replacing all the slides in the weapons that has the flaw. I - personally had one and my department (Glocks 22) had two. Glock sent out three new slides - they were replaced and life goes on. The blame was in the flaw in the mfg. of the weapon. Glock still has a weapon that is very good. Now tell me that other mfg. of handguns have never had problems.

coyote 2, They can't tell you that because everyone has problem from time to time! Glock is the preferred handgun for law enforcement in this country. There are around 18,000 federal, state, county and local law enforcement agencies in this country, 65% of them use Glock's and the 40 S&W is by far the most popular caliber!

I have a friend that was a MP in the Air Force. The slide on his Beretta M9 (model 92, 9mm) came off the frame and almost hit him in the face when he fired a round. He said it was a common problem. I don't know if it was or wasn't. I have another friend that has a Colt 1911. He bought it new in 1992. It functions properly, as far as firing and reloading go's. Its just one of the most inaccurate pistols I've or a lot of us have ever shot! We've tried every brand of ammo out there, it just doesn't shoot. Its been back to Colt and it still isn't right! I know other people that have 1911's and they shoot great! Everyone has problem's.
I have two Glock's and have never had any trouble with them. I think I'm gonna get a Springfield 1911. Hopefully that works as good as my Glock's have!

This gun came apart a couple weeks ago, and was not "the" gun that started the recall. What I don't know is if it was subject to the recall or not, whether it was fixed, or whether or not it was a later model.   I'll get more info soon and post it. The picture thing appears doable, I'll check into it further.

:cb2: The guys who have the 1911s that shoot great have usually put several hundred $ into it to make it shoot that way. My Glock 21 was the most accurate .45 out of the box I've seen yet, and it sure didn't cost near as much as the Kimbers, etc., etc., etc. I have seen.
