44 -40 Revolvers
« on: November 20, 2004, 04:15:26 PM »
The early Ruger 44-40, Vaquero had cylinders which ranged from .426-.427, with a bore dia of .429 dia. Now I understand this issue has been corrected to .429 for both cylinder & bore. (Prior to this change you could return the revolver to Ruger who would ream out the cylinder to .429 dia)
The S&W M544 (Wagon Train Commenorative Special) cylinder was either .426/.427 and bore .427. This revolver it seems would be more conducive and practical to the Rem .427 dia jacketed bullets?
2d, Question is I have some Rem jacketed which are .427 dia. Doubt that the accuracy would be worthwhile in the Vaquero now that the clyinder/bore are .429 but should there be any problem w/these (Rem, .427 dia bullets) in the Vaquero?
Conversley, ran across some Lazer Cast Bullets (made in Oregon), 200 gr, .427 dia. Would they expand sufficiently (with the new Vaquero) dia's of .429 to offer any type of accuracy?
Many thanks & have a great week ahead!

I have no idea about your question, but I do have a question about your name. I use to frequent a bar just over the border from El Paso called Freddies and one of the drinks served there was called a FreddyFudpucker. Just wanted to know where you came up with the name.

I once had a pet Conure parrot named " Bud the feather plucker" cause he would pull out all his feathers and go naked. :)  On the topic here, I'm interested in the 44-40 cal. Rugers as to customer satisfaction on accuracy.

Freddyfudpuckers,
I have two Rugers in 44-40 and i use the 200 gr. lazer cast bullets in them both and have good luck with them. Never bothered to check the bore dia.
I bought them both in 2002 and never gave it a thought. They shoot as good as i can hold. I have made some good shots out to 50 yd.s. Good luck and stay safe..............Joe.........
