22 hornet encore
« on: November 21, 2004, 07:24:58 AM »
I have been Shooting my 22 hornet for a while now (uder 1000 rounds), Last weekend I fired 9 groups ,5 shots each at 100 yards. I fired no shots to foul the clean barrel or warm it up all shots counted and the first 2 groups were 1 inch . Conditions at the range were cold,  overcast with 10-15 mph winds that typically change direction often . The overall average was not as good as the usuall .625 and was .735 .
The best group of the day, a Amazing (at least for me ) .283 . I was loading the 40 grain v-max over 1680 powder and winchester primers.
I was shooting off sand bags and it was difficult , Its time for a good front rest and see if that helps.
Had to tell someone

Old thread or not, I will answer your question. I have had my Encore 22 Hornet barrel for about seven years. It is very accurate and economical to load for. It is a standard factory barrel and will stay in the small assortment of barrels I have. I also have a standard 12" G2 pistol barrel as well as a T/C custom shop 20" barrel for a carbine both in 22 Hornet accurate and fun to shoot as well.

My Encore barrel is a blued. standard taper, 24" w/sights. It shoots a variety of loads well.

Thanks!!

that is a great help! i "found" a  hornet barrel like yours but was wondering if i should wait for a heavy barrel....don't need to now though.

if i get a barrel like that, will i need a different forearm?  the one that came with my used Encore is a sythetic flex-tech/energy burner
for a prohunter heavy barrel.

thanks again

Sorry to take so long to answer. I don't have a prohunter barrel but understand that they are a heavier barrel. I would get the barrel and try it, the worst that could happen is that you would need another forearm. Any big box store should have one in stock. Again...ENJOY!
