Handi laminate wet affected?
« on: November 21, 2004, 01:32:05 PM »
Took my 44 Mag out today. It was a steady light rain. About 2 hours into my walk, I noticed the edges of the laminates on the but stock began to take on an edge. Hmmmmmm. When I got back to the house I checked the laminate stock on my 357 Max frame and the edges of the laminate were nice and smooth as one would expect. Drying the gun off, I removed the forearm, the laminate edges remained smooth even though wet, but the inside of the forearm was wet, took 30 minutes to fry it. I have some Minwax water base Polyurethane and am applying it to the inside the forearm and will coat it well all over. I am going to treat the butt stock in the same manner. Any of you guys with NEF laminate stocks notice wet weather problems like this with your stocks?

JPH45: Back on the old board the topic of water resistence of the stock finish was discussed. Conclusion was that the factory finish wasn't very water repellent. So it's up to the owner to make sure the finish is waterproof. Sounds like a little semi-gloss polyurethane will do the trick, making sure to get all surfaces, inside and out. Good Luck:  ><> Duce:
