Lube for barrel threads

What is the recomended type of lube / anti-seize for the threads on a rifle barrel?

Jim,

I use a molybdenum disulphide wheel bearing grease (available at auto supply stores) to lubricate barrel/receiver threads before installation.

The lubricate needed is a high-pressure stuff and greatly simplifies cinching up rifle barrel joints.

In the "good old days" factories and gunsmiths used asphaltum or even common furniture varnish as lubricants and anti-seize.  The thick moly grease does both functions admirably.

I use a Caterpiller product called 'Anti-seize compund'. It's a thick lube used to keep bolts and studs from siezing on caterpillar track plates.  Some choke tube lubes will work also if they seem metallic..  Any good antisieze lube would probably work, have even heard of STP being used, althopugh I've never tried that.  I have used STP (the oil additive) as a resizing lubricant for handloading!!

JUst use the anti-sieze compound sold in auto parts stores usually used for for sparkplugs in aluminum heads.
