.356 Winchester AE....Field report
« on: November 22, 2004, 12:20:00 PM »
A while back I found a mint Centennial model Mod 94 AE in .356 Win.
Well I am pleased to report this rifle is pretty awesome.
I didn't expect MOA groups but Ohhh was I wrong!

Using factory SuperX 200gr flatnosed ammo it shot one ragged hole off the bag with open sights at 50 yds.

Please forgive me you traditional guys! I couldn't stand it! I put a Weaver K-4 on it to see how it would do at longer ranges(and me eyes aint what they used to be). My first three rounds were barely an inch!

I see where this set up would be a deadly close-moderate range deer-elk tool. I took it still hunting a few days ago and shot a fat young buck on the run. The 94 came up very naturally and as the crosshairs intersected the bucks shoulder it was all over.

I don't know if I can add a picture but I'll try....[/img]

Big Tom how the winchester load work on that deer. I have the same gun. I bought it used but it looks like it's brand new. Mine also shoots great.

The 200gr flatnose exited the ribcage about the size of a quarter. The buck went 25yds and dropped. Very little bloodshot meat.
This is a powerful round, hardly tested by a 100# deer. I think I would prefer round nose Silvertips...just haven't found any.

I will probably reload in the future.

Great stuff. Great round
congrats in order .
I was looking for a 356 too for awhile and ended up with the brother 358W in a blr. These are fine bush+ rounds.
Do not think these calipers  got a fair shake as the mags were pushin' the mags, and the cost of ammo was quite a bit more than 308/3006 and the 30/30.Reloading of course bring every thing in line.

I had 2 .356winnys both in 94's one I hunted with the other is still New. I was made a offer i couldn't refuse at a deer camp last year after I busted a nice big bodied 4 pointer at bout 115yd.s I was useing factory ammo 200gr. The guy that was helping clean the deer just kept on offering me more & more for the gun and I said what the Heck sold it for $ 430.00 and it was used but not abused,I just can't bring myself to shoot the New one,So I found me a less than perfect .375 winny in a 94 I hadn't got a deer with it yet! But ifs any thing like the 356 ,  Katie bar the door!
