Handi for sale
« on: November 22, 2004, 03:54:18 PM »
I bought my son an SB-2 handi-rifle, .223 bull barrel when he was 10 for his first deer-rifle. It took me 6-months to get the stupid thing to shoot worth a darn. It would'nt group any factory ammo that I tried, and I tried all kinds, any better than about 4 inches.I reload and I finally found a couple of recipes that group really good.( 1/2" to 3/4") And yes Its had a good trigger job, the o-ring deal, the bore is clean, everything is tight and all the other BS that goes with these guns.  Well he out-grew the .223 so I had a .308 barrel fitted to it. ( I love the .308 winchester ) I've tried at least a dozen different hand-loads, bullet wts from 110 to 180 grains, including a certain load that groups about 3/8" or better out of my 10FP.  I,ve been messing with this thing since February, tried several scopes that I KNOW are good and it flat will not shoot. I'm sick & tired of messing with it. If I buy a deer rifle I want something I can count on, and NEF aint it ! This POS is going on up for sale and I'll buy the boy something he can trust to hit where he wants to hit.  Maybe some people think its a challenge to get an NEF to shoot , but I think its BS ....

I'm thinking $250 is a pretty fair price with both barrels. The .223 barrel has a 4X12X40AO Deer-field on it. No scope on the .308 barrel.

Yes with both barrels and one scope. The .223 has taken 3 deer with that same scope on it. One of them was a buck that dressed out at 165 pounds.

Seems a little high for guns that won't shoot! :)   Sorry, couldn't resist.

I have one I'd like to sell myself in 223.  No scope but has the rail.  Regular barrel and has a laminated stock.

I'd take $175 for it if anybody's interested.

The .223 WILL shoot, its the .308 barrel that I'm tired of fooling with.
It might put 2 shots in the same hole then the next one 6 inches or more  from the others. Not always in the same direction either.   The gun belongs to my son and he wants to sell it and buy a Savage 25-06 or .270.   He'd probably do some trading if anyone is interested too.
BTW Look on the Deer-hunting forum at the pics we posted.

Any more bidders ?  Heck I might just sell the .308 barrel , give the boy my featherwt -06 and keep the .223 for a coyote gun. I think he's old enough to take care of it. ( He wants my .270 but I'm kind of attached to it)

Quick, that was not an auction but an offer to sell to another for a set fee of $50. I must say I do not think is was proper of you to jump in and possibly ruin the sale to Jeffrey8mm for the offered price of $50.00 until jeffrey8mm had the time to accept or decline the offer of sale.
We have always stood on proper and gentlemanly procedure here and not tried to screw another who was in the middle of a deal. I don't even know if Broken-arrow was serious or if he had the authority to make the offer, but I do think your action was improper. Sorry buddy, you have been great to me an others in the past but we are one big family here and I feel we owe each other the proper respect...treat others as you would like to be treated. Empathy is the word. What if you were in the middle of a deal on a barrel and someone jumped right in front of you and offered the seller more, and the seller was cheap enough to renig on his offer to sell to you for an offered price? Wouldn't you think they both were cxxxp, xgxxxxxt bx$xxxx$ with no scruples? Just a thought, love you like a brother....<><....

Broken-arrow, if you have the authority to sell that barrel for the price you offered it to Jeffrey8mm I would suggest you follow through with your offer of sale to Jeffrey8mm if he wants it for that $50.00 price and ignore any other offers. You set the price,  if the buyer accepts it the sale should be completed. A man is only as good as his word, once he loses that he can never again be trusted....<><.... :(

MSP RET  thank you for stating what I would not say.  I will buy if he will sell.  I am never one to start trouble so i just told the seller by way of pm that I would buy it but he had a better offer, I left the ball in his court.  If you [MSP] and I ever deal on something I already know what type of business person you are.  Glad to see that!!!

You're absolutely right, I was just kidding when I asked if there were any more bidders.  A deal is a deal, but, I WAS out of line for offering it for sale in the first place. I got a phone call from my son and he does'nt want to sell it separately.  I'm really sorry Jeffry8mm I had all intentions of going thru the deal, who would have thought the kid wouldnt trade a Handi for a Winchester model 70 Classic Featherweight.  But its his rifle and he wants to sell it and buy something of his own.   I'm not one to go back on my word, I was simply out of line in the first place. I should have checked with him first.  But if you want the rifle I'll make you ,personally ,I better deal and make up the difference out of my pocket  since I screwed up.

Here's an idea.  I thought of it first for myself, but since jeffery was first offer work with him, if anyone is interested.  Someone that wants the 223, agree to buy the whole pkg and sell jeffery the barrel.

If no one want the 223 then it wont work out.  I wouldn't mind doing it and KEEPING the barrel, but jeffrey has it first and I have 3 223's at my house already, ALL NEF's.  Do NOT need number 4.

I would like to make a 338-06 AI barrel from the 308 though, either that or 358 Hmmmmmm.  But, like I said, it's jefferys, if it gets split.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

Jeffrey8MM and Broken-Arrow your both old fashioned, honorable, great guys in my book. BA, don't feel badly if your son decided he wants to sell the package deal (although it would be just as easy to sell it seperately and perhaps more profitable). The offer you made on selling one of your own guns for a great deal to make up for it shows what kind of a guy you are, a man of integrity, of and by his word. Don't worry, the offer was enough, there is no one here that would you carry through on it. It shows your intentions were honorable...by the way,
 :D, welcome aboard brother!!!

And who knows, perhaps your son will reconsider, there is always jeffrey8mm for the .308 that won't shoot and a large willing audience for a .223 that will shoot!!!....<><....

Alls well that ends well....

Hey Quick, you to BA, come on out of those corners now and lets have a cup of coffee (or perhaps something with ice tinkeling in it ? ), buy the way, I'm buying brothers, we've all done our time in hell!!!

How about some bids on the .223 by itself. Then I can sell the .308 barrel to Jeffry8mm for $50 and I wont look so much like an 370H-SSV

Ok guys, I own mine and don't need permission to sell it :)   It's still for sale, so somebody please go ahead and screw me on the deal! :-D

BTW, the "any othe bidders" remark takes quick out of the hot water as far as I'm concerned.

Again, the .223 WILL shoot. (With my secret hand-loads) The boy just wants something bigger, and I can't seem to get the .308 on target.
Maybe someone else can, I dont know. And he wants to buy it his self, so I told him if he wants to sell the Handi, he can.
And I'll apologise again for the "any other bidders" remark. I really am a man of my word.
