.50 Inline ML, Bullet, and Load? What are you shooting?
« on: November 24, 2004, 09:11:54 AM »
Currently shooting a side hammer percussion .50 T/C High Plains Sporter, which shoots pretty well but with 80 grains of GOEX FFg and No 11 caps...I'm falling behind with modern MLing.

I'd like to get a new gun, probably synthetic stock, high cheek, etc...and step into inlines and new tech, and also get some more range out of the gun...out to at least 200 yards.

What gun/bullet/load are you shooting and what kind of grouping results are you getting at point blank to 200+ yards?

Thanks for the info all! ;)

.50 caliber T/C Omega, Synthetic Hardwoods stock, stainless steel, Leopold QR mounts and rings on a Nikon Prostaff camo 3x9x32. I'm using 295 grain Powerbelts over two 50 grain Pyrodex pellets. Groups at 50 yards go around an inch from a sitting position with my Stoney Point sticks - not locked down to a bench.

.50 stainless Omega with synthetic stock. Shooting 80gr Pyrodex, or 80gr. Black Mag3 under 295gr. Powerbelts or 300gr. Hornady sabots groups at 50 yards usually touching opening up to 1 to 1 1/2 inches at 100 yards. I don't check at 200 as I never shoot that far. Using 1.5-4 power Simons scope. I have shot similar groups with heavier 348gr. Powerbelt bullets. Powerbelts are usually easier to load in T/C rifles as the bores are usually pretty tight. Stainless seems to be harder to load than carbon steel.

I have an Encore SS 50 cal. I am shooting Precision Rifle 195 gr. DC sabots over 2 triple7 pellets and a 25ACP large rifle primer. I get 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards.  Very accurate shooting gun. I also shot some 2 1/2 inch groups at 200 yards with the same load. I have a Leupold 2-7X33mm scope mounted on Warne mounts and rings. :D

a SMALL suggestion. . . .go to your local gun shop and 'try on' a few. Then, I would pick the one that 'fits me best'.
Personally, I shot a .50 Omega SS, laminated stock, TC 3x9x40 scope all to push a 200gr TC Shockwave by 80gr of BlackMag' 3.
My weapon is a bit heavier than the synthetic, BUT I have less recoil. Oh ya, on that subject I also have a Sims VL recoil pad and use a Cabela's sling.

Check with some of your local ML guys and 'ask' to shoot their weapon. Many around here have shot mine and are now owners of a TC Omega.
