.223 Ackley
« on: November 26, 2004, 02:22:39 AM »
Does anyone have any pet loads for the .223 Ackley???  I think I would like to load 52 or 53 grain bullets.  I had very good accuracy with the sierra bullets in my .222.  Any info would be greatly appreciated!!!  Thanks.

I've got acouple both with 1/14 twist barrel and they like V-133 and H-335 with either 50/52 gr bullets.  If you can find some surplus 8208 works also about like V-133.  I fireform with about 25gr of either powder then go up to 26/26.5 gr again with either powder.  For shooting varmits I've had pretty good luck with the rem 50gr HP bullet cheap to buy and shoot.  For paper punching I use a custom 52 gr match made by Brawand or Berger.  Well good luck

It would help to know what your twist rate is? A friend has a .223 Ackley with a 1:7.7 inch twist rate and she is pushing my 90 to 100 grain bullets using 27.2-grains of N-540 powder for a muzzle velocity of 2750 fps and if she uses 69 grain bullets for a muzzle velocity of 3700 fps.

Thanks for the information.  I don't know the twist, I messed around too long and let the barrel get away???  Should have bought it last week!!!
