I'm looking to buy a handi rifle in 243 or 7mm-08. Which has the least recoil because my girlfriend will be shooting it.

Welcome to GBO
In general the .243 will have less recoil because it shoots a bullet weighing less than the typical loads the 7-08 comes in. Here's a recoil table for comparison. That's not taking into consideration the purpose of the weapon, just recoil alone in like rifles. If they were to shoot bullets closer in weight, the recoil probably wouldn't be much different.

Heck, buy both and let her shoot both. Give her the one she likes, and keep the other! It's a win-win situation.

Go for the 7mm-08 it is a better deer rifle and the recoil is not much more with a deer bullet of 120 to 140 gr. Put on a soft Limb saver recoil pad and that will take care of the recoil.

Cricman only trouble with your idea ( quote buy both let her shoot,
keep the one she like you get the other) She may like both and take
both then it's a no win for you. Marv.

I agree with fred on this one. Plus the upside is if you reload you only have to buy one dia bullet. 7MM!
I doubt most could tell the difference between a 243 with 100gr and 7-08 recoil anyway.
