Sako Finnfire

Who here is, or has used a Finnfire with any success (AAA or Master)?

The reason I'm asking is My 1710 is .6 ozs under the weight limit w/o the magazine. I forgot to weigh it (the mag) when I was trimming weight due to being over. About the only thing left for me to do is to have the barrel cut down and recrowned. I traded a new Sako in on the 1710 (1710D KL used, with 24" brl.and wood stock) as soon as I saw it because I always wanted one. I barely shot the Sako at all and had never shot a match with it. I'm thinking of trading back. I know the Sako will have no weight issues and if it dose'nt group for me I'm thinking I could rebarrel it with a Lilja for starters.

opinions please....Thanks, Bill

by the way, 1700 series FWT's are just not to be had around here. Otherwise I would possibly trade up for something like that

Bill,

I have a McMillan Anschutz 1700 FW stock for your rifle that will reduce the weight of your rifle to below 8.5 lbs as long as you are using Al rings and bases as well as a scope that does not weigh more than 18 oz.  The stock is brand new and is fully inletter ready to drop the barreled action into.  Check the McMillan site to find out the new price for the stock fully inletted and make me an offer.  It is red/white marbled.
All the best,

Dan Theodore

Dan, I have thought of a replacement stock but $'s  kind of tight. If I trade back for the Sako I will get some $ back also and then could get it rebarreled if needed.

I do have BKL alum. rings and it's topped with a 6.5-20X40 EFR. No more weight savings there.

Thanks for the offer and and if I can swing it I will I will give you a shout.

Thanks again, Bill

I shoot a stock Finnfire ,it is a bit lite in the wind ,that said it shoots far better than I can hold.I have one foot in AAA,and also use a Leupold EFR.The rebarreled Finnfires I have looked at  were a little heavy for my tastes. The FWT is the only gun I would consider over my Finnfire.  Just my 2 $$  Mark.

Well I did it. Traded back for the Sako. Big difference in weight. It doesn't hang out there like the 24" barreled Anz. did (which I was starting to like) but, I'll try it for a while. I would like a little more weight out on the barrel. With the Sako being so light I can try the BKL riser blocks that have been setting around collecting dust.

Anyone have experience with after market (hunting rifle) barrels for the Finnfire?
Which brand, type of tapper?
How was the balance?
Performance?

Thanks, Bill
