Value of a Series 80 Blued Gold Cup
« on: November 27, 2004, 02:36:39 PM »
Hi,

I have a blued Series 80 Gold Cup.  It is the earlier model with the flat rib on top of the slide, and finish is 95%.  It had some modifications (extended mag release, extended safety, funnel well, Dwyer Group Gripper full length guide rod and link), but I was told that it has more value in stock condition, so I have removed them.  The only modification that can not be removed, is the factory sights have been changed to Millett sights.  I still have the Elliason rear site with the gun.  Also has the original brown cardboard box and all papers.

I've seen a couple used SS Gold Cups at Rileys here in NH.  Both are new enough to have the plastic boxes.  One has the rib on top, and they are asking $825.  The other is newer, and has the rounded slide top, and they are asking $850.

Should I expect a similar price range for my blued Gold Cup?

While I like the gun, I am having troubles seeing iron sights these days.  I'm considering buying something in the way of a race gun with optics on it, or have optics installed on the Gold Cup.

Any thoughts anyone?

thanks!
Success is a journey, not a destination...  Might as well enjoy the ride!!

Just remember, when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.  You can rely on 911 or on 1911. The choice is yours.

Your Gold Cup is a valued piece.  These go for $800~1000 depending on condition and location. With the box and papers, you should be in the $900 range. I've found location is sometimes more important than condition. In areas where bullseye competition is popular, prices go up.

The scope base for a 1911 type gun must be attached to the lower frame.  Brownell's sells  no-drill mounts made by NPC and Aimtech, both in the $60+ range.  See http://www.brownells.com and type 349-045-000 or 017-245-001 in the search box.
