Blackhawk or hedhawk action job

I am interested in getting more involved in doing minor work on my own weapons.  For instance, I can feel all the little internal machine burs when I manipulate my revolvers.  I hear that gunsmiths use a stone to polish the metal to metal surfaces to rid these problems and slick things up.
My question is this, can a typical handy guy safely do this kind of work and if so where can I find some guide lines?  Thanks, Gary

Go to the library, and/or join a good book club to get set up with some decent studying materials before gettting started on your projects.    After some study about maintaining proper angles when re-working triggers, sears, etc.....then you'll be ready to buy some of the needed tools and abrasive papers that can help you smooth out metal-to-metal contact.

If you don't get studied-up first you stand a good chance of causing problems.

Thanks ss for the info.  I know there is far more to the craft than meets the eye.  I like to know how things work and want the Redhawk to be smoooooth as i know it can be.  Budgets just do not allow gun smith expenses.   Thanks gary
