Thanks for the posts. I've been having a heck of a time finding an accurate cart. for my lr sportster. Tried at least 10 different rounds.

I never thought of using hypervelocity, but I'll give it a shoot.

Oqirrh, I tried hypervelocity Stingers to low velocity target ammo in my Sportster. A lot of people come to rest on Stingers, which is what I was hoping for, as these shoot flat out to 60-70 yds.
 Hovever, MINE seems to like low velocity rounds exclusively!! Go figger......
It does best with Mexican made Golden Eagle target, Eley primed. I can hunt with these with the bullet nose filed using a special tool for  a flat meplat to create a Small Game Bullet. I haven't tried it out  yet, but after last Tues. 12/21, nothing is left open for firesrms except small game & some bird hunting. Hoping to do some squirrel hunting New Year's weekend!

Remington Subsonic did come in 2nd place, and when I use up the 2 bricks of Golden Eagle, I will probably switch.
Squirrel.......the OTHER dark meat.....!

Hornady in the 17M2 but hope to try the Eley if they ever get on shelves.

:(  Took the 22lr NEF out Sunday for a round of frustration.
Shot federal bulk ammo--NOT good-flyers and about 2 inches at 50yd.
Peters ammo--NOT good--couple inches at 50yd.
Shot Aguila standard velocity got 1/2-3/4" at 25 yards, that spread to 1.5" with flyers at 50yd.

For the heck of it, i shot some Aguila hyper velocity. It shot about 8" high over the standard and the grouped at 3".

I've tried four different scopes that work well on other guns.

I really like this 22lr rig, but it's got to shoot better than that.

Oquirrh, have you tried polishing the bore with JB bore compound or Flitz? NEF barrels are pretty rough from the factory and take a great deal of shooting to get best accuracy, the polishing just reduces range time. Also, the triggers are heavy, doesn't take much to get a 2-3lb nice trigger with an hours work on em. Check out the sticky in the Misc H&R talk, Collectibles, handguns forum, Honing the H&R/NEF Trigger. Another thing to check is the scope base screws, they have been found to be too long on some guns, preventing the rail from being tight. Lots of us have bedded the rail too....

Hope this helps,

Tim

thanks quik,

I attempted to polish with flitz by pushing five or six flitz swabs through from the breach. Is there a better technique to polishing? I'll give it a good polish this week.

Rail is good and I have about a 3 lb trigger.

It takes a bit more than that to make any difference. I pretty much follow Varmint Al's procedure without the moly bullets. You can use a bore mop or a jag and patch. I usually put some Kroil or gun oil on the patch first to help spread the JB. You may have some pretty good leading if the bore was unusually rough, the JB will help get it out.
