Remington 7mm-08 case dimension
« on: November 28, 2004, 06:34:29 AM »
If someone here has some remington brass in 7mm-08, could they measure the head dia. and post it here for me? I'm thinking of switching from winchester to remington cases for this caliber. The win. brass I have measures .465" at the base and all of the case drawings I find have found have that point at .470". I have both remingtom and winchester to compare in another caliber and the remington comes closer to spec for it. So I am hopeing to find a closer fit with the remington in 7mm-08. LouisV

Let me rephrase me question on this old post. Does ANY company make cases for 7mm-08 rem. that measures .470 or at least close at the base? LouisV

Thanks Wlscott. I bought some Rem brass today and mine measures .466". It must vary some by lot date I guess. At least I'm .001" closer to a good fit. I just don't get it. It's bad enough that we have to put up with undersized cases in calibers like the 6.5x55. But this is an american cartridge, one would think that we could make brass to our own specs. I'm sure they have good reasons for makeing it undersized but accuracy isn't one of them. I'm hopeing that someday Lapua or one of the other makers of good brass will carry this cartridge. I'll get off my soapbox now. Thanks again for your help. LouisV

Louis, bothers you that bad, reform from 6.5x 55.  American made brass may be undersized for that cartridge, but it's sure closer to what you want than what you have.

reforming form 6.5x55

Leftoverdj, I going to try that. I just ran a 6.5 x55 case thru my 7mm-08 die, with a couple of aneallings and lots of trimming it seemed to come out in pretty good shape. I'm going to do some checking around and learn more about this reforming process before I load any. Thanks, LouisV
