I don't think you'll find the 600NE in a bolt. You can get a double for about double your 5K from Searcy. Happy Holidays

msorenso,

Ahhhh the .600 Nitro Express.  Get one for under $5,000.00, I don't think so but a bolt action is.  Go to http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976525690.htm and take a look at the one offered at Guns America.  Lawdog

Would you consider a .577 Nitro Express? How abot a .600 JDJ? (.577 Nitro blown out for .600 bullet)? I think these guys can do up one of these for less than 5 grand.

Stands for "J.D. Jones" the owner of SSK.
As far as getting a #1 in 600 NE, the case is
considered by many, including me, to
too big in diameter  for safety, so JD took a 577NE case and straightened it out to hold 600 bullet
and he puts them in #1s. Still gets about same
velocity levels as 600 NE.Ed.

So what caliber would you shoot?  brass that they have necked out to 600.  I know this is a dumb question but I take it 600 jdj is still smaller in circumference than a 600 ne.  thanks for all the info! :D

msorenso- The case body of the 600 JDJ is a little
smaller than 600NE, but bullet diameter is the same.
Yes in a #1, the 600 JDJ is one to use, but not only
one.The 600 OK that a bunch of guys on AR
developed would work also, giving the same or more power. It is a belted straight case, whereas the
600JDJ,600NE,577NE are rimmed straight cases.Ed

You can get it from SSK and handload. If you have dies then you can also get expanders an use
577 brass also,
and still reload. As long as you have the equipment.
If you don't reload they have loads. But it is way
cheaper to do your own.Ed.

MP--Yes we will need bullets, and no big hurry, still
saving pennies to get action for my 700HE barrel.
Lets us know on all the sites when your ready to
go.

Msoreso--Another great thing about ammomaster is you can get different threaded top plates. We even
enlarged thread on one to handle 2 inch dies.Ed

I think what I will do is purchase one from state arms and get a second barrel in 700  which I can use both.  This will be sweet! :D

It cost $305 plus shipping. It is 34" long.
I think 30" and shorter is $275.Ed.

Hey guys I'm new here and I like big bore rifles. I would like to join in with all of you and talk big bores.
As for the Ruger #1, I to have heard that its action is not large enough for the 600NE.  I may agree, but on the other hand I will have to say I have a 600NE on the #1.

Thanks for the Welcome.  Recoil, out of a 11# rifle its a handful.  I have not shot this rifle all that much. I wonder if the action is large enough. But no I haven't had any trouble with it. I also don't know if there is another one out there to compare notes with.

you still have 2 Ultra Mag's and a back pistol to purchase before you worry about this.

Jerrys Sports owned a gun shop called Simmons Gun which is known for the simmons vent rib for shotguns, and the shop foremans name was Keith.  He built the rifle for himself and I acquired it from him some time later.  The shop has been sold and Keith is no longer there.  I do still have contact with him.  I dont know if he would built another one or not?  I need to learn how to post pictures and show you the rifle.  Have you heard of Claton Nelson? from Colorado, he builts large bore rifles, but the price is above what you are wanting to pay.  In fact, thats how I got the #1, Keith was having Claton build a 600 for him and he needed the money for the new one.  I came out looking pretty good on that deal!!  Hope this helps
